    Going to New Orleans tomorrow

I leave for New Orleans tomorrow. I'm working the Monday night football game. Re-opening of the dome. I'm pretty excited. I have never been there before. That city has so much culture and history. I'm going to try to get out and experience some of it. I will probably working long hours though. We'll see. Any advice as to where to go or what to try?

Yes they have been rebuilding that stadium for over year now. It was a cover story on yahoo. It looks really nice. I will take some pics and post them when I get back.

I think I told you what I do before. I have to run video to 3 jumbo-trons and set up 2 RF handheld camera's for the pre-show. If that makes any sense. I will be up your way October 8 and 9th for the Columus Day Parade. That is a big show, believe it or not, for us. We already started setting up some of the equipment and testing it out. It sucks we can't start set up until Sunday at 4 because of some Jewish parade that morning. Its a tough show to put on. I'm usually up 48 hours straight those 2 days. Then I will be up there again for the NY Marathone. You wanna talk about a production. That show is our biggest. I think have 40 guys working that show. Helicopters, motorcycles, trucks its a crazy event. That is a bigger production then the Olympics. You have to cover so much. It stretches over all 5 boroughs. NY is a bitch to work in. Frequencies are hard to cordinate but there are plenty of rooftops to set up on. Last year I was on the GE building. This year I'm in Brooklyn somewhere. I want to say Citicorp? Not sure though.

French Quarter and most of the historic districts downtown were largely untouched by the floods. Great restaurants spread throughout the Quarter, most or all are fully functional (and have been for touristo season, despite the havoc elsewhere in the city).

Other parts of the city are still a no go but NO has made a surprisingly robust comeback. You should check out the visitors center webpage: http://www.nola.com/visitor/

So do you just do the setup, then get to watch the game? Or do you have to keep working during the game to make sure everything goes smoothly? Either way, very cool gig you got there.

    I visited N.O. for a week, pre-Katrina. I had a blast. It was such a cool city.

Actually I have yet to do any concerts. That is mainly audio that doesn't need any RF. I am a RF technician. RF = Radio Frequency. I make things happen through wireless solutions. Microwave, Radio. i.e. the sounds you here in the huddles during a football game. They are done through a wireless audio system. Ref mics, talent mics. Another example is a RF camera. You see those guys carrying around camera's on the sidelines with no cords attached. That is all done through microwave. Transmitters/Receivers. It is really interesting work. We are moving into digital everything. My company was the first to introduce the HD wireless handheld camera.

If everything is going smoothly then yes I get to watch the event. You do have to monitor things and make sure everything is going well though.

I was a radioman in the Navy I worked with all types of freqs even EHF, we used to play around scanning bands on all of our equipment picking up all kinds of strange radio shows, conversations, everything, SATCOM images from all over Iraq, Iran, all over the place, we had it made, we knew sports scores before everyone else so people would bribe us to get the scores, the best job you can have in the Navy next to being a cook....but even they bribed us with better food...

They use wireless mics in concerts, wireless guitar transmitters, comms between the coordinators, etc....
