I think that religious leadership and the institutions themselves are a fraud....not the ideals.

walking around the rock of abraham in mecca is a fraud...selling holy water in jeruselam is a fraud...the fact that the Roman Catholic Church hold more proprety than any other private organization inthe world is a fraud.

The fact that ALL religious institutions are NOT taxed in the US is a fraud....maybe I'm in the wrong business

I for one believe in a higher power and god. I think alot of places dont do right with worshipping him and there is alot of fraudulent actions out there that associate themselves with god, however I do believe in god and feel sorry for those who do not. Have a nice day.

Roll your eyes if you must, but what christianity teaches is if you dont believe you will be damned to hell for eternity. And since I do believe in all of that, it makes me feel for the ones who dont. Get it?

Its not a flame its nothing of the sort. People who know me on here know that I dont try and start things. I simply state my opinion and thats what it is an opinion. Its not a big deal to me, just stating what I believe just as well as everyone else has.

I respect your beliefs. I don't expect you to believe in what I believe in. Why do you expect that of everyone else?

And to say you ' feel sory for the rest ' sounds pretty arrogant to me.

    True

But I wouldn't call it a fraud, because not all people that are religious
are fraudulent, some are good human beings...
(Usually the leaders and organizers that are frauds)

I would call it the "Greatest Control Device"

And I will further specify that I am talking about "Organized Religion"
because a good "Idea" never hurts anyone, a "Belief" can be dangerous

Religion in it's purest form is good for humanity. Man's greed fucked it all up.

^^ Some men have messed it up to an extent, but there are still people who follow it the way its suppose to be. However there have been far to many people who have gave it a pretty good black eye.

Positive Ideas in their purest form....

Religion in its purest form is still a system, you cannot waver from it, you must have faith, you must believe
thus there will always be someone of a differing opinion
thus because you are taught to believe yours is the truth, you cannot agree

And thats where the trouble starts

I'm not catholic so I know nothing about it. But buddhism today is warped. It's all about donating money and expecting ' good luck ' in return. Wish wash BS.

It was intended as a religion of self growth and understanding reality. No praying, no worshiping....everyone person is equal. No monk, nor king should put himself above anyone else. There's no god, no higher beings.

i'm not trying to convert no one here but,

as a buddhist, your taught to respect other people's beliefs. You might not agree, but you have to respect it.

You might want to research the history of how that belief became part of Christianity... because it sure wasn't in Jesus's teachings.

Your implication seems to say the intellectual would be incredulous toward religion/god/higher power?

    Oh don't get me started...

I don't believe in 'good' and 'evil', but if there is evil, it's religion. Mainly christianity and the islam.

The only good thing religion might do, is to provide mental support, much like a placebo. There are 10,000 things that could do this better, so it doesn't make up for the killings, the hate, the racism, the discrimination, and the blackmail.

Seriously, I think the pope is the fucking anti-christ.

    Anti condom! Pro AIDS!
    Anti homosexuality! Pro discrimination!
    Anti blacks! Pro racism!
    Anti other religions! Pro hate!
    etc, etc.

The worst thing is probably that there are actually laws that discriminate against atheists. Thank God I live in Holland!
