My gf and I are moving in together and are in the process of buying new kitchen stuff. We both had the crappy wal-mart stuff and want some really good kitchenware. We found some really nice silverware (Dantz) for 100$. We are now trying to find a good set of pots and pans. The ones we looked at were 500$ with a lifetime warranty. I do not want to pay that. I was thinking closer to 200$. What is the best kind out there for cooking on gas stoves. Stick or Non-Stick? Opinions.... Thanks.

Ha, that is funny.
either get the reall expensive non-stick pans, or don't get them at all, the stupidest thing you can do is keep buying cheep non-stick pans, I think Cast-Iron Pans are the best.
I got a set from IKEA 3 years ago and they are still going strong.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I buy mine from stores such as National Wholesale Liquidators, real cheap over there, you talking about non stick or Cast-Iron?

see they are really cheap- 15$ for a set on ebay- http://cgi.ebay.com/3PC-SET-CAST-IRO...em160039830124

The best for cooking is Cast Iron (unless you want to buy a really expensive non-stick set), brands don't really matter for cast-iron. You can use metal forks/spachulas (sp?) on cast iron, and not scratch it, unlike non-stick, whats the point of buying non-stick, unless you don't want to use any oil in your pans, wich is stupid (oils have healthy fats), and are good for you,

some good info in this thread about cookware
Cookware
it is alot cheaper, and willl last longer.
I like to cook my food with fats, it makes them tast better, and healthier.
You can use metal on them without worrying about scratching it.

I would reconsider non-stick. Teflon chemical a likely carcinogen: board

What about Stainless Steal?

Just buy those cast irons off ebay and tell your girlfreind/wife that they were$300![]()
Non-stick pans can flake/emit a vapor with use and the material/gas is allegedly carcinogenic.
I see someone already mentioned this so never mind.

I found some hard anodized ones for 100$.

you get what you pay for and good non stick pans are great for meat but stainless for everything else. cast iron is great if you are willing to treat it right which takes a little effort.

Don't look back ~ You're not going that way!
I just got the Calphalon One 10 Piece Set and it's the shit! Check it out. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...=-1&SKU=105014
It's pricey but you'll never need to worry about scratching the surface or warping the pan. It's really the best of both worlds.
If you're going to buy a set, I would suggest against cast iron. They are way to heavy and bulky and you have to season them. Just more effort then needed. Having one cast iron sauté pan isn't a bad idea though. I love searing a filet in mine and then throwing it under the broiler. I haven't tried that yet with my Calphalon.
