Mitsubishi & Samsung seem to have the best imaging. I found this mitsubishi on ebay . LCD and plasma have the best overall picture quality, but DLP is least expensive of the three. Good luck and enjoy.

I would advise against a plasma - the technology is flawed and they don't last that long - people often get sync problems with progressive scan models and slight picture delay due to the audio being processed quicker than the scan itself. Thats without mentioning the dreaded "burn" that you can get with static images being up on screen for a while. - Think some video games.
LCD TV's as such are a relative new technology and have'nt been tested as such for longievity. Generally pixelation can occur over time, with spots on screen, and fast paced sports can be quite blurry at times, but out of the two, they are the better option long term. To a certain extent, this will be overcome with high bandwidth HD transmissions for sports, and this won't be as much of a problem. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Definitely go view the TV. DLP's give me a headache from rainbows (even 5x colour wheels). Sin City was painful to watch.

LCD's have greyscale issues and the potential for screen door on front projection. But the newest are pretty good

My money's holding out for SED to clean up the market.

If I had to tide me over....I'd look at SXRD based tv's or sharp aquos series

I'd have to agree on the SED, you'd be aswell holding out for that technology if picture quality is all important to you, and given that your going to spend a lot on it, be aswell getting the best. Here's some more info and comparisons against exsisting formats.

I bought a cheap 50" plasma tv since it was my first I figured learn how to use it right and avoid burn in and all the other shit people claim might happen, etc...plus I had to figure on who had to carry that beast in and the DLP model we liked was fucking massive...I really like the cheapy that we bought the picture is good enough for me cause i watch movies for the stories first not the special effects fireworks spectacular imaging, I play video games maybe 5-10 hours a month and have never had burn in I also plug my laptop in to it from time to time to watch a video I can't get to burn to DVD or to mess with imaging software trying to learn to do some of the shit like they do at www.breedart.com
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
