I'm using FireFox 2 now (at home) and also use it at the office.

It still doesn't have IE's best feature yet, but I'm okay with that. What's IE's best feature? When it gets owned, your whole OS gets owned.

There's also no way in hell its going to support ad blocking like FF does.

Or how about extensions in general? Hell no. Or how about just themes? Nope.

FireFox has led the way in making browsers more useful and secure. Without the compitition IE would still be the same old basic browser. SO now they are off to a tough start with their next iteration ... it'll get fixed. I use 1.5.0.7 without problems. The hot-key nav's rock as does the tabed browsing, the higher security, and the fact that it's open sourceed. I love that this browser is the result of thousands of people kicking in just to make it better. I'm surprised that Bill hasn't figured a way to make that illegal.

He may not have tried to make it illegal, but he's certainly vilified open source. Plus, he's feeding money to the SCO group so that they can create FUD.

I've been using 2.0 since it's release. Other than 2 extensions not being compatible.....it's performed just fine under XP sp2.

Have you installed the Nightly Tester Tools extension? It'll let you use your old extensions.

I didn't say it was the best. I said I thought it was just fine.
    My reasoning is this:

I try to stick with standard layouts and configurations, so that I will be good at trouble shooting the most common problems with the most commonly used software. IE has the market 93% of the market in June.
As someone who has used IE since I was 14, and have battled the constant problems and bugs, I have learned how to troubleshoot almost any common problem. It helps me when I have to fix someone's computer, and 95% of the time the problem the person is having is with IE or related to it.
I am a nazi when it comes to what I install on my machines. I have never had IE crash, or gotten a virus. I have firewalls for port protection, and I ahve a custom DD-WRT firmware OS on my router that helps me monitor all IP traffic.
I have third party lite-weight programs to protect me against attacks from the Internet.

I have used FF, and I liked it. The problem is firefox won't do everything that IE will, and people end up having to fix IE which they have neglicted and didn't take the time to learn how to use properly.

By your logic why don't you drop your firewalls and all other protection and submit your email address to as many spammers as possible, that way you'll be in a constant state of real world situations just like all of the other average users out there????????

After you install it, go to your extensions are right-click and select "Make Compatible"

Keep in mind that some extensions simply will not work with 2.0. Tab Mix Plus is one such extension.

For instance, our SQl exercise system that we had to use for my database classes doesn;t work in firefox. Also, our campus MSDNA is where the computer science students get our software from, and you can't access the system properly unless you are using IE.

In my webpage class, we learned that there are certain things we do with CSS that won't work with firefox, or firefox renders the page improperly.

Thats just a few things I can name off of the top of my head.

So nothing Microsoft makes works with it's enemy Firefox who'da thunk it?

Yes a few things don't work well with firefix, thats what the little extensions called IE Tab and IE View are for if your page ain't working then use those and it will simple as that...

IMO, it's more like the other way around. Though i havent worked on IE7 yet.

(for CSS 'develop in FF and fix in IE' as the saying goes)

Ok, you have a point there, but some of the problems are related to macromedia, not Microsoft.

If a page (that doesn't use ActiveX) displays correctly in IE but not FF, then you can chalk it up to crappy programming.

You can get to any site that specifically requires IE by installing the User Agent Switcher extension. Not only can you do that, but you can spoof the GoogleBot and get into some websites that require a login.
