Not on the press ... not in Bush's plans, and not on google so it can't be real. You Democrats have a case of wishful thinking me thinks.

Yup just saw this after a lil more digging. He quit ...

    Source

    Rumsfeld Quits

by Nikolai Stephens, Sun. 16 Apr 2006 politics Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, quit the Pentagon today after a personal dispute with once close supporter, President George Bush. Rumsfeld has undergone a great deal of pressure recently, particularly from the military, over his handling of the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq. However, it appears that his decision to resign had little to do with Iraq, and was in fact over a disagreement while playing scrabble with the President on holiday in Maine.

"I can't abide by these two letter words that don't mean anything being used," the former Defense Secretary told the media today. "I don't care if they do appear in a scrabble dictionary, if no one knows what they mean, than they're not a word. I can't work with a man who so rigidly sticks to the rule book when it's against common sense."

"I have formally handed in my resignation, and want no more to do with this administration," Rumsfeld then announced. "I would have won, if Bush hadn't found that underhand way of using his "Z'. What ever happened to only using the dictionary when you're challenged? I can't stand people who rifle through it before they find a word. It's just not right."

However, the president is unrepentant. "If that's the way he wants to act, then so be it. I won fair and square. Rummy's such a stick in the mud traditionalist when it comes to scrabble. He was virtually frothing at the mouth when I beat him. He's a poor loser."

Major-General Batiste, a key critic of Rumsfeld's handling of the Iraq invasion could not help but point out the irony in Rumsfeld's resignation. "He's rejected the advice of the military over and over again because he thinks we're too traditional with our tactics, and now he's gone and quit because he doesn't like new ways of playing a board game. Personally I think it's kinda pathetic. I use the dictionary all the time when I play and no one has a problem with it."

However, Rumsfeld had the final word. Upon hearing Bush and Baptiste's remarks he told reporters outside his Washington home, "Why don't you all just f#%< off! You're just jealous that I'm better at scrabble then all of you. I would have won if Bush hadn't cheated. I would have won Iraq too, if those damned insurgents had played fair as well. No one likes me. Leave me alone!" Then he slammed the door and refused to come out again.

This was well overdue. I don't know a lot about his replacement but I have a feeling this won't lead to any worthwhile policy changes on the Iraq war. That will likely be put off until post-08 elections.

Glad to see him gone though

Didn't someone on here predict that Rusmfeld was going to quit by the end of Bush's term of office?

There was already talk early this morning about investigations and subpena's. I think he is getting out before the democrats start accusing everyone of everything.
Pelosi thinks they will have free reign..........I think alot of the democrats elected yesterday are more conservative, like Heath Schuler.

I'm not surprised that he's stepping down. I mean, the guy has tried to leave twice before.

    .
I think you are correct. Especially if the Senate swings to the democrats and it looks like it will. I think the investigations/hearings will be tempered by the fact that many of the democratic leaders are pro-war and are as culpable as the republicans on that measure.

Just look at his age. He's 74...he probably just got fed up playing politics. The guy was doing the job longer than anyone in any recent administration. He just ran out of steam.

We must wish him well and offer him our respect. He did, after all, serve corporate interests with diligence. I'm expecting that history will treat him kindly.

I think it's just finally Mission Accomplished for him and he is going to let George W. fend for himself...why do you think GW wouldn't let him him go the other times he tried?

IMO they gotta be careful. They only have 2 years before the next election. If you look at history, in the sixth year term elections, the republicans lost less seats than normal in a sixth yr election. It could easily change if people don't like what they see in the next 2 years.

    About time.

All the branches of the military released that editorial a few days ago requesting hsi resignation. I forgot who made this joke (Jon Stewart?) but they said that's like O magazine telling Oprah to resign. When half your generals, the majority of the country, and all the branches underneath you tell you to quit, thats when you know you suck.

Maybe I missed the boat on the 'scumbag' tactics of the Democrats. Generally they are characterized as ball-less, spineless and without purpose. Yet they also are portrayed as ruthless, diabolical and will do and say anything to get/retain power. If I were a betting man, I'd say the Democrats limit investigations to only obvious war-profiteering....they'll do nothing to impede the operation of the government itself. That's a shame.

The problem with the Democrats new found leverage is that they won't use it to impeach a president, vice president, sec. of state and sec. of defense all richly deserving of such ignominy.

Impeachment was included in our Constitution to address exactly what the Bush administration has done, namely an unrelenting attack on our constitutional form of government.
