    Questioning your ethics

So there you are walking to your car in a relatively empty parking lot. It's dark outside and nobody is around. As you approach your car you look down, there's a bag sitting on the ground. Your curiosity gets the best of you and you take a closer look. It's a black leather bag and it's quite heavy. You take a look inside and notice what appears to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. What do you do?

Let's make this a little more interesting. Let's say you know for sure this is drug money and there is no way that it can be tracked back to you having it. Do you still turn it in to the police and hope it's not claimed after the six month waiting period or do you keep it?

If its drug money it could only be claimed by a pusher, right? So I take it, and distribute half to charity and put a few K in a church donation box to make myself feel better.

Besides who carries 100k around in a bag. I sit around an hour after finding it to see who comes by. Then I decide.

I'd return the money to the drug community by investing it in Biotech/pharmaceutical stocks.
NEVER write a check with your mouth that you can't cash with your ASS!!

You would sit and wait for the drug pushers to come back to take the money?

I would probably just take around $10k and turn the rest in.

If I new it was drug money, I'd take it and put it to work for me.

I'd pick up the money and sit at the far end of the parking garage, or jsut outside of it inside my car. Might not be a pusher, even though it mostly likely would be, I'd still want to see.

And I wouldnt spend any of it for a few weeks. Just incase a news report comes up saying the Pope lost 100k or something. Then I'd feel awful

Here's a better ethics question I heard when I was younger.

You're in the military as a tanker. It's WW2 and American troops are on the far side of a bridge getting pummelled. You start to drive your tank across the bridge but right in front of you, 10 yards ahead, is a baby laying right in the middle of the bridge. There is no room to go around, you either run over the baby and get to your troops faster in hope of saving them, or you get out of your 1-man (for hypothetical purposes) tank and save it, taking precious time, and then continue on.

I'd drive above the baby (the tank as the clearance and with width), open the bottom hatch, pick up the baby, and drive on.

Remember this is an ethical question Rob.

If you do what you said, then you would be on record turning in a bag of money, right? Do you not think the bad guys would come find you for the $10K you took? After all, they know how much money was in the bag!

Damn't. Well hypothetically, its a fat baby that would be crushed if you drove above it. No outside the box answers here.

Fortunately... soft tissue from babies doesn't obstruct tank tracks.

Sorry.... I need those infantry guys alive.

Where exactly is the ethical dilemma in your fact pattern? Let me get this straight: I find a shitload of ill-gotten money in a bag in a midnight parking lot.

Not exactly stealing food to feed one's family is it?

You're a lawyer, so this question doesn't pertain to you.

I would keep every dollar. I would buy outlandish shit like cars, high quality escort hookers, and drugs. I would get smashed and snort coke off of bitch's tits. It would be the greatest moment of my life.

    So how are my ethics?

    Please tell me you're kidding?

    The ethical dilemma is:

    a. Keeping money that is not yours.
    b. Doing the right thing by turning it in, knowing that it will leave a trail back to you.
    c. If you keep the money, do you spend it charitably or selfishly?

There's many angles you can go but the fact is, it is not yours. Will right or wrong prevail? Understanding, "right" is a blurred line.

Oh please. If I wanted to make money I'd be working for big business probably running cost/benefit analyses on whether it's cheaper to manufacture a dangerous product or just settle the anticipated lawsuits and absorb the costs.

You're all jealous of me and my 1991 Dodge Spirit...of the fact that I don't have cable tv....of my $7.00 haircuts at the Beautician school.....

...I'm starting to depress myself. Better go home and have a drink of Genuine 5-star Whiskey. Sometimes I do indulge.

I made this thread with the hope others would post examples of ethical dilemma as well.

Certainly not about fat baby dilemmas. We all know they deserve to die!

    Ok Ethical dilema.

There is this really hot chick that is looking for one night of fun no names asked, however you are married.

Do you tap that ass, or go home to your wife?
