    Nov 11

I found this from GS on MMI..........Good post.

    Remember this -

Your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze and sleep for another 10 minutes.

He stays up for days on end.
    _________________________

You take a warm shower to help you wake up.

He goes days or weeks without running water.
    __________________________

You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
    __________________________

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up
    with your friends.

He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.
    __________________________

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
    __________________________

You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
    __________________________

You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.

He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.
    __________________________

You complain about how hot it is.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his
    brow.
    __________________________

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order
    wrong.

He doesn't get to eat today.
    __________________________

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.

He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.
    __________________________

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.

He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
    __________________________

You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.

He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.
    __________________________

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.

He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
    __________________________

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.

He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.
    __________________________

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.

He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll
    ever meet
    __________________________

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.

He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers
    why he is fighting.
    __________________________

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.

He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.
    __________________________

You see only what the media wants you to see.

He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
    __________________________

You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.

He does exactly what he is told.
    __________________________

You stay at home and watch TV.

He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.
    __________________________

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.

He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to be woken by
    gunfire.
    __________________________

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place
    because of men like him.

If only there were more men like him!

If you support your troops, re-send this to everyone you know,

If it gets to another veteran who hasn't received it yet, it will bring
    back memories.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,
Jesus Christ and the American G. I.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom

Please remember our soldiers and veterans on November 11th!!

Just because one is against support the war does not mean that they do not support the troops as well.

Actually... having the freedom to say that is probably the single most "American" thing anyone could say.

It's that very freedom that troops are on the line for. Strangely ironic isn't it?

Yes, being a soldier in war sucks, but they were not forced or drafted, they joined the military on their own free will.

Bah, hah, scoff. How dare you! How dare you undermine the efforts of our soldiers? They are fighting and dieing for our freedom. They selflessly went to war to die so that you can own your website and badmouth our troops. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm not sure what you're trying to convey here? The thread is about November 11th (Veterans Day) and entails a vivid description of the hardships and sacrifices faced by soldiers, sailors, and marines in harms way.

Yet.. your statement seems to imply, "tough shit... you volunteered for it"?

While I'm sure that guy who took Normandy Beach would agree with your assessment of his "volunteer" status I would submit to you that he/she deserves a tad bit more than that simple dismissal.

I don't think the Commander in Chief's criminal misuse of our troops in Iraq diminishes the general character of each and every military person.

    It's pretty simple.

I don't support the invasion of Iraq--which has zero to do with protecting my constitutional freedoms (Bush has assaulted those already)

I don't support the troops in Iraq. If I supported the troops, I would be supporting the cause. I don't.

Now comes the obligatory: I don't wish harm on our soldiers. But I cannot support what I view as tantamount to a war crime.

I agree with that. World War 1 and World War 2 vets are my heros…everyone one of them. I think they are among the finest human beings to have ever lived. And just so everyone knows, I am not being sarcastic this time.

I am not undermining their efforts, nor are they fighting for my freedom, they are fighting to make the rich richer, i.e. for oil.

They went to war because they have to, it's part of your duty when you join the military.

BTW, I was in the Army myself, so shut up.

If one takes a rather hard view of personal responsibility, then Prince is right. Every soldier has the option of conscientiously objecting to the president's misuse of implementing the armed forces. Every soldier can face jail and dishonorable discharge rather than engage in what can be described as a war crime.

To me, that's a rather stringent view of personal responsibility.

My dad was a soldier as was my grandfather. I had friends in the military. It breaks my heart to see GWB doing the things he's done to them.

B/c history is history and the present calls for vigilance on this matter.

Perhaps a more acute sense of the death and destruction wrought by this ongoing disaster is needed.

It sure bothers me when I hear the so-called (former) opposition party--(democrats)--speaking in terms of continuing the mistake in Iraq.

What better way to honor solders past than to 'fix' the problem now afflicting our present day soldiers>

I mean... I look at the incredible obsticals and challenges faced by our guys in wars past and present and I'm amazed at the accomplishments. I have nothing but the highest praise for them.

Allthough.... I do find some interesting contrasts between Wars past and Wars today.

This thread is about November 11th and Veterans. And yet... you cannot resist the urge to turn it into an anti-Iraq/Combat Soldier=War Criminal arguement. Come on man. Somewhere out there is a kid getting shot at for your benefit and rather than take a brief moment to thank him/her all you can do is demonize their efforts.

I feel sorry for the Iraqi civilians, look at what they have endured since we invaded their country, that is what is really sad IMO.
