    Wireless router Problems

Ok I am far from a computer person. So I need a little help

But the last few days, my wireless signal keeps fading out on my laptop pretty frequently. The router is only 20 odd feet away through one wall. It was fine the past 8 months until this last week. Any thing I should look at?

Do you have any other wireless devices hooked to that router? If so, are they having problems?

What if you move the laptop right next to the router? Do you still have problems?

Do you think that your constipation is taking a toll on your laptop?

If it works next to your router, then it's probably not your router or your wireless adapter. At that point, I'd check for interfence. Most homes phones (in the US), and many other devices, work at the same frequency as your router.

If it doesn't work, then your router and/or adapter is malfunctioning.

Have you moved the router at any point recently from it's original spot?, Have you moved anything between the path of the router and the living room?

Try changing the wireless channel on the router in the config page..., it's possible a neighbor just got a wireless router and it's interfering??

    Nope nothing has been moved.

I was starting to wonder if it was my neighbour. Fuckers I am going over there right now to raise some shit. Ah maybe for a few beers instead.

If it's the neighbors just change the Broadcast channel on the router, put it on 3 or 6 most people don't like those numbers and rarely use them I set all my wireless devices to different channels...all my neighbors use the default settings....sometimes if I go outside and want to sit on the porch and browse I'll tap into one of their signals......

    that's my guess.

if you check your available wireless connections, and you see an odd available one you havn't seen before, just disable that one.....it's probably the neighbors .

and there's an option where you make a connection your permanent one. a dialog check box that says connect to this one only.

that's a vague discription i know. I havn't used my wireless for a while now, can't remember the details.

Like said, change the channel used. Radio interference is pretty easy, we are lucky to have so many channels to use where other countries get diddly. When I setup wireless networks I usually use 1/6/11 as I space them out, to avoid them stepping on each other. I also dont broadcast my SSID at home.
