I don't get the time to watch much television, but this series has really got me hooked. . .it was hyped by CBS all summer with scenes of a mushroom cloud and panic in a small Kansas town, but it seems to have developed into an interesting drama. The U.S. is attacked by someone (either terrorists planting random A-bombs in some cities or a coordinated attack backed by an enemy) and this small Kansas town is suddenly isolated with no clue what has happened.
So each week the drama unfolds - they have to figure out how to get food, keep the town safe, send someone out to get medical supplies in a place that was overrun by mercenaries. In the backdrop, you see a couple of what look like nuclear missiles flying once, some planes overhead, yet everyone is still unsure what has actually happened. Mercenaries come to the town for supplies and the town has to defend itself. . .it does get you thinking.

You guys are going to lose. You might as well just cheer for me, because Boston isn’t winning in Boston for the season opener. I’m sorry. " - Gilbert Arenas
Why dont they jsut drive out in diff directions, or to a major city. Or use a cell phone or internet. Or a long distance radio. Or a local radio tower.

I think they can't use any of those things because an airburst fried almost all of the electronic equipment. So they ran out of power. . .almost out of gasoline. . .
why dont they caravan to a city?

They drove off in different directions in one episode - all they found out was that a bunch of our cities were bombed...smuggled A-bombs...except New York was spared - they caught them before they set off the bombs there.
Denver and Atlanta and Chicago are gone. . .but they can't get much information. When the television worked still, all they got was an empty podium once and some brief Asian newscast showing a map with bombs going off in the U.S. The high school kids in the story - one of them had his Mom in Atlanta, and he had a message from her when it hit there. . .
so why don;t they caravan to NYC? or DC?

They went to one town for some medical supplies and almost everyone was dead - the hospital ravaged by mercenaries. So they went back to their little town after a gun battle and tried to seal it off from the rest of the world to stop the mercenaries from getting there. . .
D.C. is gone - at least so far in these episodes, they don't have the gas to get clear across the country to NYC and a lot of other towns are in complete chaos - like doomsday.
Theyll ahve to get out eventually, why not jsut caravan on a major road to a major city? There would have to be other towns jsut like them, all on the main road

They don't know and they don't know if they could find anywhere to get gas anyway. They drove out in - I think the first or second episode and one guy found planes that had landed on the highway, but they were empty. It's like chaos outside the town (at least as far as they know) - the preview for the next episode shows the town getting an airdrop of supplies, but one box on the closeup has a Chinese marking. . .
They could caravan to a gas station? Update his thread, I'm not gonna watcht eh show but I'll solve the dilemma

It's already about a month after the nukes. . .there isn't a lot of gas (though they still have some) and you need electricity to power gas station pumps - they have no idea if there is any power anywhere after the electro-magnetic airburst fried circuits. . .The local store is almost empty, the town had to send people out to a farm to help harvest some corn. . .
There's no gun store in their town? This is Kansas we're taking about. I say pump all remaining gas out of most cars, fill up some vans w/ what you get from that, and get everyone out of their, loaded w/ guns. Just pile people into and onto the vans, roofs, back of pickups, w/e. Caravan to ST Louis, you atleast ahve a better shot in a major city. Or caravan to a military station

They've got guns and some ammo - but there are 5,000 people in the town - they can't get everyone out. . .not enough gas or vehicles for that at all. And I think St. Louis must be gone too. They can't figure out whether it was a terrorist attack or if we are in a war. . .one of them said he ran into some military units heading toward blown up Denver, but couldn't get past them.
Now they don't know if China invaded or if most of the country is just nuked enough to be in complete chaos. No federal government messages except a recorded phone call from Homeland Security.
New Orleans? Little Rock? Why not take 30 in a caravan and leave everyone else ina militarized state?

Hmm..I dunno. Unless they are afraid they are gonna run into more mercenaries or gangs outside of town who survive by attacking people and raiding homes for supplies and stuff. And, of course, next week it throws in the idea that maybe the Chinese are coming. . .
30 ppl loaded w/ weapons and vehicles seems sufficient to bypass or go through a gang of mercenaries. Update after you find out about the Chinese.

They can't leave because an EMP took out electronics, which would effectively disable most cars made after the early 80's. Also, if the more able people left to go find a place, that would leave the town open to attack. Easier to defend when you are in your town than when you are in transit to another.
