It just doesn't look good, especially if it's the same person consistantly. Same goes with people showing up late to class, it's like they don't care (which does not look good in a business environment).

yea, if they are consistantly late, thats bad, but if it happens once...who cares?

There was probably a good reason

Personally, I hate it. If I call a meeting at work, I start promptly at the specified time, whether or not everyone is there. Not surprisingly, people have learned to show up on time for meetings that I call. If they walk in late, I go on and expect them to find out what happened earlier.

If I'm at a meeting that hasn't started on time, I will ask the person in charge what time the meeting will start. Example, "What time will the 9:00 meeting start?". That sometimes gets things going. If it doesn't, I will say "I will be in my office, call me when the meeting starts" and then I will leave.

I'm like 60-80% of the time to my anatomy II class, but I also have an A on every single quiz and test thus far and have turned in every assignment. Does that still mean I don't care?

Yeah I'm late to class alot, never to work.

Work pays, school doesnt. And don't give me that "later down the line" talk, b/c I get good grades.

you obviously care about your grade in the class, but you don't care about showing up on time which is disrespectul to the professor teaching it.

I do see that people who are late to a meeting are normally under prepared as well. Meetings are not the same as class. You paid for that class, you're only screwing yourself being late. In a meeting you show up late you're screwing me

I am late to my classes about 40% of the time, and in highschool, much more.

For most people, school is just a means to an end. And I don't think it's disrespectful to the teacher/professor.
As long as you don't make a big deal out of it.

If you come in late, take your seat, and get out your book/notes. I don't see the problem.

On the other hand, if you come in late, make a scene, be loud, and obnoxious. That is totally disrespectful. My early class has a kid like that, who is always loud and annoying, and he's the only one who thinks he's funny.

Yea unless you go out of your way to disturb the teacher and class, I don't see a problem. Especially if you're passing w/ good grades. None of my teachers mind, in fact a few find it somewhat amusing.

Especially in highschool when you have blow-off classes.
I was late 90% of the time to my first class in senior year. But it was
a completely useless class for everyone in it. And at the end of the year, they wanted me to do community service to make up for the time I missed class....

I gladly handed them one of these:

Yeah, I'm a senior in HS right now. I got threatened w/ all that crap last year too Brachi, the administration doesn't really bother me anymore now though. My teachers don't care and the senior class admin is cool about it.

Depends what kind of class it is. If it is a lecture with 200+ people, they generally don't give a shit.

I really have no choice. My schedule is so tightly packed that day that I can't really get there on time usually. It's only very marginally late, but I wasn't going to put off taking a prerequisite I needed because I was going to be 5-10 minutes late too frequently. Sorry, but that's ludicrous in my opinion, especially considering I'm paying for it. She doesn't seem to care; it's a Friday/Saturday class, and there are a couple students that are the same way.

Eh, I didn't say people who arrive late don't care, but it does give off the image of it. Personally, when you're talking about college I am in agreement with you, you pay for the class you can leave whenever you want. I've had classes one after another that are on opposite sides of the campus so I understand where you're coming from. It especially sucks over the winter when it's snowing. However, coming in late for meetings (what this topic is really about) is more disrespectful than coming late for a lecture with 300+ students.

People who got late on the meeting are unprepared and not organized people. Late once can be tolerable but repeated late is not good anymore. You should be time conscious and shedule wise.

I hate people who are late. I am always early because I don't fuck with people's time. School I could give 2 shits about, but still showed up on time just because it was a force of habit.

I am a teacher and I can tell you I think it is disrespectful, and I sure notice who is late all the time. My class has a participation credit and I cut it in half for habitual late arrivers because in entering and shuffling to their seat, unzipping bags and rustling around the attract the attention of the class away from the material, not just one but with each of the 5-6 frequent later arrivers--sometimes almost 10 minutes late for a 50 minute class.

At least one of them will be going down a letter grade by losing that credit. And I did let them about this in advance and checked which students have classes across campus or shifts just prior to me (and so get some leeway). Knowing my attitude, and the credit system, people who still come late are not making a wise decision.

Being late is probably one of the most damaging actions to your credibility.

One of the highest sought qualities almost every employer will seek is someone who is ON TIME. You can be the most qualified candidate on the planet but if you're unreliable.. I don't want you.

As an employer, one of the first things I'll review (other than a candidate's qualifications) is their atendance record. It weighs heavily on my decision.

I would bet that the people who are always late are usually the same people who are always unprepared, the same people who drive like idiots, the same people who talk in a quiet library, the same people who talk on their cell phones in restaraunts, the same people who have stupid ass dogs that don't listen, the same people grow fat by age 30, the same people who bring their infants to R rated movies, the same people who talk on their cell phone while taking a shit in a public restroom, the same people who would rather watch Jerry Springer than read a book, etc., etc.

People who are unintelligent, lazy, and inconsiderate in one aspect of their life are likely unintelligent, lazy, and inconsiderate in general is what I am getting at.

I always find it interesting to "people watch," just sit on a bench somewhere and watch people going about their lives. I get a big kick out of seeing some idiot who has absolutely no self-awareness, and imagining him blundering through his whole life in that manner.

You're "that guy" in the stall next to me, aren't you?

I make it a point to flush the stool at least 10 times or so if someone is talking while sitting on the camode in a public restroom

I can tolerate people showing up late for meetings. What really pisses me off is when meetings run late. People who can't run an effective meeting and manage the time in the alloted slot should all be FIRED.

I am late to class half of the time, because I am paying professors to do their job, so they can lick my nuts if they don't like it.

I try to never ever be late for work or a work related event, because I try to be in professional in the workplace.
