    Wireless network question

I have a wireless network I connect to at a County building I spend quite a bit of time at. I wanted to play a little online poker (I'm such a bad person, I know) and it won't connect. Then I realized MSN Messenger won't connect either (but Skype messenger will). And you can't get to sites like myspace.com or bodog.com. Anyone know what's up? I thought they might be blocking content, but I can go to sites like poker.com, pokerstars.com, mansionpoker.com, facebook.com, etc... Any ideas?

they're probably blocking certain ports for instant messengers. If they are using some type of proxy, more than likely other poker sites will get blocked. But then again you are talkin about county folks.

I should mention I can't get on AOL, either. Doesn't make sense why they would block some IMs and things like myspace

it makes alot of sense, they can log the most visited sites then block em.

Why they would block those particular sites though makes no sense. They offer the network so people can go to the sites they usually go to, just while they're here. Why prevent that?

oh i thought you were just randomly connectining to their network. If they're offering it as a free service, then thats totally different.

Why don't you connect to the WAP using the default username/password and change the access restrictions so that the policy's don't apply to your machine by specifying your MAC address...

Then again, everyone is so 1337 on this site I'm afraid I might get hax4d.

What makes you think they would be dumb enough to leave the user/pass set as default?

Its not likely filtering is done at the WAP, unless its some cheapie home unit which is doubtful.
