    white flight

I have to say, I can't wait to move. I like the size and layout of my townhouse, I don't mind being close to the city, my yard is pretty small but I don't really mind that either. It is the people. Some are black, many are white, but it is the culture that I cannot fucking stand. I guess you could call it "black" or "rap" or "hip-hop" culture. At all hours of the night my house get vibrated by some asshole's subwoofers. I have to listen to rice-burner exhaust all day, the kind that people throw on their four cylinder import to make it sound like a muscle car, but really it just sounds like a broken chain saw. The road is approximately 30 feet from my house, and people fly by at 55 mph in a 15 mph zone. My driveway is right on the road, basically just big enough to hold a two cars; in the morning I can hardly pull out of the driveway. I'll look both ways, and someone will come over the hill at 55 and have to slam on the brakes.

A couple months ago I was walking my dog around the block. A car pulled into this driveway about 15 feet infront of me, subwoofers blairing. Three people got out, two of them holding open cans of beer.

I honestly cannot imagine trying to raise a child in this environment. I don't understand what drives people to act/live like this. To me, it just makes me think about all of the times people cry "racism," when really it is caused by the way people conduct themselves. You can complain about your property value dropping when you move in, and call it racism, but the reality is that no one cares about your skin pigment. No one wants to live by you because you act like a fucking asshole, you fly through the neighborhood 30 mph over the speed limit, you park in your yard, you drive drunk, you blair loud music, etc. etc.

It sucks to hear about that but if this has always been a problem, wouldn't you have known beforehand when you first saw the house and inspected the neighborhood and community that you are living in before considering moving in permanently?

Always happy to help. Your story seemed so serious, would have hated for it to be ruined by your lack of math there. That's all.

Some neighborhoods change drastically in a matter of time.

    For better or worse.

Harlem is becoming whiter and whiter as we speak.

Our neighborhood is steadfastly becoming "little mexico". The influx of non-english speaking hispanics is almost as alarming as the mexico fiesta music blaring at 1000db in the middle of the night.

Hence, We're in the process of building a new house located a comfortable 25 minutes out of town in the middle of middle-class suburbia.

I used to rent from somebody in Philadelphia. I did it for a year. I liked it for about 3 months. The neighbor had a 4cyl acura integera that had one of those ricey exhausts on it. He was constantly working on it. There were so many frikin kids on that street it was ridiculous. My passenger mirror was knocked off and my chrome valve stem covers were stolen. I lived there because it was cheap and close to work. I had to move an hour away from work to get away from that crap. I am so much happier now. I have nice, wealthy neighbors now.

For me it isn't a matter of the neighborhood changing, its a matter of this is what I can afford while I am a student. Hopefully when I am working full time I will be able to afford something different.

How would you like if you lived in a multi-million dollar neighborhood and the richest man in the world decided to rent the homes for not $50'000, $10'000 nor $1000 but for a measly $150 dollars to low income families...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

It's like the home owners who live in the neighborhood where another property owner buys a home and converts it into a section 8 government rental property.

Watch in wonder as your property value drops 30% overnight.

My dream is to not be able to see my neighbors on either side. Have 10 or 20 acres about 45 minutes outside the city. Clear an acre, build a house and leave the rest wooded. Thats paradise for me.

Its completely possible in moderate sized cities, such as Columbia or Greenville South Carolina. Hopefully I'll be back in SC when I graduate.

I live the same dream. I grey up on a 20 acre farm. One of my favorite ways of rat killing was to wake up early, grab an axe and sling blade, load up my four-wheeler and make trails all day. I know I cut at least 50 miles worth of trails before I turned 15 and lost interest.

I would like to do the big city thing for a few years just to see what it is like, but eventually I want settle down on a couple hundred acres.

It depends on several things I guess.
Take the lower east side of NYC, that place used to be loaded with young artists, hippies or whatever you want to call them, well they are being kicked out because of the high rent...they now moved across the Williamsburg bridge and settled in the Williamsburg area and priced out the poor.

The Williamsburg area was a shithole. Now it's a hip area.

The exact opposite is happening in my little town. All the real estate has boomed so high that the poor people that once lived here, can't afford it. All the neighborhoods that were deemed "ghetto" when I was a school kid are almost out of my price range now, and the big time developers are buying up marshland like PS3's.

We need political leaders who can fix this.
Maybe a president who is more involved with issues at home instead of wasting all of their time and money on countries who don't care for us.

That would be a real challenge to see a President keep this country from becoming a ghetto.

You just described my parents house. They live on 12 acres. My pops bought the land back in 1984 for 27K and built the house for 50K. The property and house is now worth 500K. It is crazy. They live about an hour north of Philadelphia. The plan is for me to get the house in about 10 -12 years. They want to live in Florida half the year and live here the other half when they are retired. They basically want to trade homes with me. My house is a townhome so you don't have to really do anything to the exterior.
