Funny that you bring this up. I need a new suit ATM. I've grown out of my old one. I have serious trouble finding suits though. My shoulders are too broad and my waist is too narrow to fit most suits. I need a quite big, heavily tailored suit to fit into it. Do you have this problem too?

If you want a business suit, blue is always acceptable. I especially like darker suits with fine lighter stripes all the way down. Have you seen the commercial with Jay-Z in it? That suit is awesome.

S&K Menswear and the Mens Warehouse are good economical options. Both offer custom tailoring.

They've all got holiday specials going on now so you can get a pretty good deal. Probably get in a good suit for under 200 dollars.

100% wool is the best. Tropical wool blends are fine. Avoid synthetic fabric like the plague.

Oh.... Make sure your shirt and tie match. your selection of shirt/tie combo will make or break your suit.

I have to get my suits custom tailored too. I normally go into Mens Warehouse, tell them what I need for what I'm doing, and let them go to work. They get the tailors and stylists to prep me for everything from the suit to the shirt, ties, shoes, socks..etc. Most of the time I buy JonesNewYork suites because they fit well and the prices are decent for it's style. I have never walked out of there unhappy and always looked great at where ever I went. The other thing I like about them is they give free cleaning, have their own credit line, and will fix basically anything. Their customer service is awesome. Since they are a chain, if I am on location and something goes wrong, I have walked into a store, told them the emergency, and they hooked me up right away.

    Always go to a tailor.

They will measure from top to bottom and make a great suit for you.

You choose the material and color with their advice, then you go back when it's done for a fitting.

If you want to change the fitting you tell them and they go and alter it.

As for shirts and slacks, go to a tailor.

You will never want to buy clothes "from the rack" again.

I have a tie patterned from a Jerry Garcia painting, and then I have a cheap clip on, both blue. Blue matches my eyes.

Neiman Marcus Armani suit, can't go wrong...

Pinstripes are my favorite too. Buy one during college (junior/early senior year) for job interviews if you want to get a job straight out of college.

    Step 1: Buy suit
    Step 2: Tailor suit
Step 3: Attend job fairs, set up internships / get work experience

I am not a big guy, but I found that tailoring my suits (I own two ) was still necessary even though it fit well to begin with. This is especially necessary if you buy the suit and pant as one combos since the waist sizes are enormous.

What are some good suit/shirt/tie combos?

In Hawaii if you show up in a suit for a job fair people will ask how much a cab ride back home will cost...thats about the only folks who wear suits here...

As has already been mentioned, The Mens Werehouse. Start off by asking for athletic cut suits. That'll make the tailor's job much easier. You can take a normal fat man's suit and cut it to make it fit, but it'll have puckers in the shoulders, won't hang right in front and the pockets won't be straight. The athletic cut comes from the factory with a greater shoulder to waist ratio, so any extra tailoring won't ruin the suit.
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???
