How much do you spend on Christmas gifts?

And for whom do you buy them for?

I think the national average for Christmas spending is a little over $750/year, but I have friends spending anywhere from as little as $0 to as much as around $1,000.

I don't usually buy into the holiday hype, but I do regularly buy Christmas presents for my little brothers (my older brother and I compete on who can buy them the best gifts), and whomever I'm dating at the time. I've stopped buying presents for my parents since they aren't the type that likes to spend money and are usually more concerned with how good of a deal I got on the gift. My older brother is the opposite, where the only gift he will enjoy are the ones that cost over $250 (he is mostly into higher end electronics). For friends, we don't really do the exchange of presents although occassionally, if a close girl friend whom I know will be buying me a present, I will get them something small like a DVD+CD or some booze ($10-$20).

Last year I only spent about $30 on Christmas gifts for my girlfriend. This year (w/ a different girlfriend), we were talking about minimum spending range which I let her set, and she said $100 . Going onto four months with her. It looks like this year is going to be more expensive than the last for me.

    That bitch!

Actaully, $100 is super cheap. I spent around $500 on my last one...and you know others have spent more on IML.

Ya know, a supplement stack from iron labs would be a great gift...

Could be worse. I spent about $200.00 on my last girlfriend for christmas, and the cheap whore painted me a picture. She was an artschool dropout, too, so you could just imagian how shitty the picture looked. I had to ask her what it was.

I usually spend between $75.00 and $150.00, but this year my moms gift is already pushing $100.00. I will be lucky to get something for my dad and brother without spending over $200.00 total.

This holiday spending is due in part to societal pressure. As a result, we have debt, sadness, and depression. Sure you have happiness while giving, but what a fleeting feeling.

Therefore, I spend a few hundred dollars on the lady and $100-$200 on my nieces. Kids get the most joy and so I only spend on them. The two family functions I have are $20 grab bag gifts.

Looks like I just bought my gf a pair of $900 earrings and we spent $6,000 sending her daughter to San Francisco for Thanksgiving to spend it with her friends who are going to college around there, I got a $700 desk set, beautiful thing I should take a picture of it. We get Christmas gifts though out the year, cause we're very impatient!

Our family is starting to do the grab bag thing starting this Christmas. Seemed like the best thing thing to do because the Secret Santa expsensive gifts weren't really working out because my family member's income is all over the spectrum.

But back to the thread topic. I usually spend about 100 dollars on gifts for my mother, father and brother. Though a couple times I spent around 200. I don't know what I am doing this year because I literally have no personal cash to spend. I think I can manage something though.

A quick tally puts me at close to $3,000 the bulk of which was spent on my fiance and two kids, then gifts for my two nieces, nephew, couple of close friends and a few of my clients... thankfully I'm now done.

True, I just don't feel we are that serious yet. I'm looking at about $200 on her so far, but I know the gifts will be surefire hits.

Oh man, this is kind of funny because I think this is what my girl will be giving me this year (we are no longer doing the $100 minimum thing). She's not in artschool but her family are really famous artists overseas and she's actually pretty good judging from the art she's shown me.

I will end up spending almost $400 on about 10 people, unless I get my clients something, then it will be more.
