You could play that either way. 1) it strengthened the relationship as a whole (first day) or 2) it was a new leaf, new chapter in the relationship (new day)

You're right, I hadn't even thought of that. I suppose I meant "informal anniversaries" so to speak, in new relationships, where some couples celebrate at 1, 3, 6 (etc.) months.
