Ask for Him by name this year

“For the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” (Exodus 34:14)

Happy Holidays Jealous! And thanks for all of this. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm a part of it and I can't imagine not being here in it. Sometimes it's brutal but the depth and quality of it all is what keeps me coming back.

Personally, I think you can do better than jealousy. But what do I know? You created a fish from scratch. I can't even read a ruler.

I believe they refer to it as "atheism".
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

I would think apathy is more agnostic than atheism.

Agnostics are still open to the idea that they're might be more beyond like, atheists do not.

    Yep, i'm an agnostic.

I was thinking of starting up a church for people like me. Everyone shows up and we just pray to random things because we don't really believe in anything except the possibility that there might be something. I could make a lot of money, i'll have to make sure I get a lot of black people to show up so there is some entertainment though.

No thanks. It sounds even more pointless than my current religion of Satanism.

I read a study years ago that set out to prove (some study, huh?) that religion only weighed down the parishioner's life. Instead, it proved just the opposite. It turned out that active church member (not the less active ones) had a much less stressful life and a more positive outlook on life.

    That doesn't sound pointless.

No doubt, religious nut's lives are better with religion. The problem is that they try to make everyone else's lives miserable. If Christians could keep their religion to themselves, everyone else wouldn't hate them so much.

Don't sell yourself short. People like you would find other reasons to hate them. You'd bitch and gripe how they "only take care of themselves".

Yeah I know, thats my point. I have been Agnostic since I was 14. I believe there could be a god, but until it/he/she gives me a phone call to sau whats up, I just don;t care.

Atheist care. They care as much as christians do. That is why they fight so hard to have things like "under god" removed from the pledge.

Not true. I know many people with religious, or spiritual, beliefs whom I enjoy the company of, because their religion does not dictate the policies of the local and federal government.

When the personal beliefs of an organization lobby for changes that prevent me from doing what I want to do, I naturally get pissed at that group.

I studied Buddhism alone when I was 10-14, whenever I would get grounded my father would strip my room of everything, lock it all in the garrage and just give me a stack of encyclopedias or whatever books I wanted from the library, except if they were about one of my hobbies...one of my hobbies had been Jeet Kune Do/Martial Arts during that period so I started studying Eastern Philosophy as a way around his bans on my hobbies, but actually I think he wanted me to expand my looks into the origins of smaller things...you know instead of studying football study Ancient Greek society or Roman Gladiators and how they began sports and how they morphed into the sports of today...but I ended up being consumed by Buddhism and Zen, at 12-13 I was able to really get into a trance like meditative state where it felt like an aura had surrounded me, I think this is why I got along with so many stoners in Jr. and Sr. High School even though I actually objected to using any chemicals in your body back then, I wouldn't even drink soda nor take aspirin for a headache....anyhow during that time I was forced to go to a Baptist Church every Sunday and Wednesday it was aggravating to sit through Sunday school, especially since my best friend Jake had started enjoying Buddhism and we would sit in class and meditate and ignore everybody and the Sunday School teacher would get angry with us, so thats why I have such an abrasive attitude towards Christianity and most of the other deity based religions....

I work with some guys who say the closest explanation of what they practice is deism. Deism rejects the legitimacy of holy books and writings like the bible or torah. They believe that God exist and the only way to understand God is to observe the material world such as nature. Every Thursday night, they burn sage at the shop and chant with other friends of theirs. I have sat in with them twice as an observer. They really get into it. One time, everyone was meditating and one guy fell asleep and started snoring. The dude sounded like a wood chipper. I was surprised that dude’s snoring didn’t screw up anyone’s meditating, because no one as much as flinched during the 2 hour meeting. I was bored out of my mind, but I enjoyed seeing other people get into something like that.

One of the guys asked me if I would like to join their group. I told him that their group seems cool and all, but I can’t handle silence, especially with my eyes closed.

    You are a cynical person.

I'd wager that you did not know the bibilical name of God was "Jealous."

Your anger and hostility is tiring if not predictable.

If you read carefully, you would divine a prayer in my posting.

    But you don't.

I'm more inclined toward eastern religion but it never hurts to have an open mind.

God has many biblical names, and ive heard the "jealous" arguement before so dont think your all that unique. my anger and hostility? surely you jest. how many threads have i started with the sole purpose to put down your beliefs? anger and hostility are hardly two adjetives that could be directed my way.

    Exodus is a great song.

The electronica type song Exodus? I dig it, ran into it by accident because I like the band Exodus - which is metal.

Nah, the Bob Marley song. I imagine the electronica song is a version of that, though.
