With obesity becoming such a huge problem in today’s society its awesome to see that Lifetime is putting out movies like their new one about a girl who wears a fat suit to school and finds out what it is like on the other side of the scale. At least some TV has maintained its sense of purpose
the thing i hate about those shows is that they always leave you with the message of "look at this! look at how our society treats people with a weight problem. Look at how cruel everyone is to this girl and how they view her."
The real message of the show should be "Look what slobs we have become. Do you want to be portrayed as a slob? People need to take better care of their health."
i think that the point of these movies is not so black and white but more in between those two extremes that you proposed. yes, as a society we have become lazy and unconcerned with health, but we have also become extremely superficial and concerned with image and i think that movies like this are trying to get us more to a medium where we care less about how we look and more about how we feel so that we are all healthy

It shouldn't be a pity party - that much is for sure.
I think there should be a lot more information about how to properly diet and exercise available to the general public. There really should be someone who knows what they're doing with the job of finding and destroying inaccurate information about this subject in particular. Remember, freedom of speech has limits, including when it puts another's life in danger. This could probably be argued to apply under such a limitation.
Either way, I think it's much more important that the people of our society are healthy than it is for them not to be so superficial.

So physical health is more important than psychological health?
A good question, but that's not what I'm saying.
Superficiality has nothing to do with psychological health in the sense that one indicates the other (or lack thereof). Superficiality is easily fixed (I think) by simply getting to know people less fortunate than yourself, volunteering, helping tutor people, etc. Not that the latter is easily accomplished, but once it is, it helps decrease superficiality (or I think it would in many cases).
Assuming psychological health and superficiality are intricately connected: I understand that the implications of a superficial society can negatively affect people psychologically (I live in one, after all), but physical health can affect psychological health as well. So, having a superficial society (check) in which everyone is physically healthy (er... uncheck) is a big step up from having a superficial society (check) in which many or most people are physically unhealthy (check).
Personally, I think psychological health is far more important than physical health, but both are of course necessary.

how you look and how you feel go hand in hand. Ever sit there and have a fat woman cry to you about how she feels like shit because she is so overweight, can't fit into her clothes, can't find a man?? Why is she in my office? Because she wants to feel better! What will make her feel better? Losing 50-60lbs will defenitly do the trick.

Yeah, but some people think that losing weight will make all their problems go away, which obviously isn't true. There will always be some problem that needs to be taken care of. Sometimes people lose site of that when one problem overshadows the others.
