Dogs are still man's best friend in my mind. Abuse happens. Death is inevitable. Dogs aren't the only things being abused. People are abused and killed probably more often than dogs simply because of the actions of other people. You should really include some kind of link on that page in a comment to a place where you can donate to a cause or something. A video so disturbing usually inclines people to act.
What's sad is that it can be argued that everything man does is natural. People are thinking machines, and will think of and do anything for their survival. Other animals have become extinct, and perhaps it was from the actions of another species. We're just the first ones we know of to do so much damage to so many.

Animal abuse shouldn't just be something that ''happens''. People should have more morals. Anyone that puts themselves so high above another living creature, that they entitled to the right of taking it's life so cruely, deserves nothing more than to have the same happen to them. People need to have more respect for the other creatures on this earth (not neccessarily just dogs) and realize that their lives mean just as much as ours.

But it does happen. And it's not nearly as bad as the abuse humans receive from other humans. I don't recall learning about any genocides committed on dogs. Just fifteen years ago there was a genocide in Rwanda. No one even knows or cares about it, really. Perhaps our priorities should be on helping ourselves before others. Perhaps not.

good choice of music to go with the visual images you chose. mad world by gary jules.

I do. I may have even read it on this board. I may be wrong about the specifics, but I think someone in a Chinese village contracted rabis which prompted local officials to kill every dog in the county. I know it was in China, and I know at least 100's of dogs were beaten to death right in front of their owners.

It was horrible when I went to Hong Kong and saw fresh dog dangling in front of shops I learned not to look through the windows when I caught a glimpse of a guy stripping back the skin on a dog...
I have five dogs and a cat, everyone of them has a personality as large as any human I have met and each of them shows their affection for us all of the time always begging for our attention....I think having pets is the best therapy for anyone.....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,

no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
That's definitely not a genocide. You're talking about 100s of dogs in a single county vs. 100,000s of people across an entire country. It doesn't really compare, does it?
Don't get me wrong, though. I own pets and love them to death. I just think that helping other people should come before helping animals (in most cases).

...But what choice do Chinese officials leave us when they viciously beat to death 50,000 dogs?

therefore i would assume the human race's ability to ignore the suffering we inflict on one another began with ignoring the suffering we inflict on animals. just a thought.

50,000 can hardly be ignored, but how do you compare 50,000 dogs to 800,000+ humans?

That's, of course, not mentioning any other genocides that have taken place. I strongly recommend the movie 'Hotel Rwanda' to everyone reading this. It's a very interesting movie.
I agree with the insight of your last statement, and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but what does this insight really have to do with the discussion? Are you saying that we should stop the suffering of the animals first, because the suffering of humans will probably continue until animals' suffering stops? I'm just a little confused, that's all. And if it really isn't meant to apply to something specific, that's fine. I just wasn't sure as to the context.

i'm saying all life is deserving of compassion. and caring about the suffering of humans doesn't make it okay to close your heart and ignore what you percieve to be "the lesser" of god's creatures. it's "just" an animal sounds pretty cold. we are all animals and man's arrogance will be his demise.

n thank's for the movie tip i'll try n find it tonite. try watching http://www.isawearthlings.com/

I agree. But it's a matter of survival. No other animal that I could think of (unless it's a pet... and of course having pets is bad for them anyways) would help an animal of another species rather than preserve itself. I am definitely not saying the problem doesn't exist or that it should be ignored. I just think that our species should preserve itself and sort out its own problems before worrying about other species. It only makes sense.
I never said anything about another creature being 'lesser,' although arguments could certainly be made for such a statement. I also never said it was 'just' an animal.
The assumption that man is arrogant may very well be our demise instead. Many people love to point fingers and say that people are arrogant, that America is arrogant. It's completely unsubstantiated. People are tenacious creatures who have the innate and seemingly unique ability to think their way out of situations. No other animal has that. Are we superior in certain ways because of it? Absolutely. Otherwise it'd be the squirrels or some other animal killing us instead. The discussion on American arrogance is another topic completely; I just felt like throwing that in there because it bugs me, really. I'm not saying you're one of those people who loves to say this, or that you said I said those things. I'm just expressing my opinions and I hope you're not offended (and I'm not offended either).
For some reason the trailer won't play for me. I'll try it in IE in a little bit though.

Of course 100's of thousands of human lives is tragic, but I don't put a human life over that of any mammal, thats why I only eat fish and birds. Also knowing that I could easily pick one of my dogs up and kill it with barely any force and knowing how trusting most dogs are of humans makes me feel so sorry when I see what a human would do to one he probably bribed to come over to him with some meat....I feel just as sorry for the women and children in Rwanda as I do for the dogs, but I really don't feel as sorry for any of the men but thats just because I am the type who if I lived in a place where shit like that was happening I would pack up the family and move far away...

I put human life over other life for the same reason I put family over other humans. You have to stick together and protect your own kind. No other animal is going to do it for us. It's our responsibility.
That's a great idea in a fantasy world. Rwanda was a war zone. Two rivaling factions controlled different parts of it. There was no way to cross the border without permission from the government, which was rarely granted. Although the differences between men and women are quite large both physically and mentally, both are easy targets for machine guns and armored trucks. Not to mention the lack of transportation, shelter, protection from disease and hunger. I feel equally bad for all those killed - men, women and children. I'm sure that if simply packing up and moving away were an option, most would have tried it.

that is the idea behing peta killing most of the animals it takes in and why peta sucks ass. yeaaaaa. let's let all the animals die out and while we are at it watch out for ourselves by not considering any other damage we do to this planet. that will really pan out well for the survival of man....
a seeing eye dog recently died in a fire while trying to save a cat... god i hate humans. the ones who are blind inside anyway....

People who are cruel to animals, specifically pets absolutely disgust me. I have one cat and i've had her for 15 years and she is the best thing i have ever had. If someone were to ever kill her or commit anything beyond cruelty to her, i would beat that person to death .. regardless of who it is.

SYN, how did you combine sound and video together.
I was asked by a fellow IM'er how to do that but I have no clue.

Genocide or not it is still wrong.
And as far as I'm concerned, the human race is far beyond any type of help. If we get fucked in the ass by the government or other countries or other people etc, we usualy have a choice in the matter, or a means of defending ourselves. Animals don't. Not only that they have less of an understanding in the matter. It is no doubt that they know what is happening. But I'm sure the question of why baffles their minds as they're being bruttaly beaten or murdered by someone who feels they should get to push something of lesser being around because they are more powerful.
These animals hurt just like we do. But they are innocent and defensless. We are not.

That is bull. There are plenty of breeds of dogs that work to save humans and help humans (and in return are well taken care of), as well as plenty of accounts of animals (dogs, cats, horses etc), who are simply pets and companions, not loyal servants, who have saved their owners lives. From near death situations, to armed burglaries and heart attacks. Plus, try counting up the times you've heard of a chicken raising a duck or vice versa. There's even stories of dogs that have helped to take care of abandoned baby deer. To say that any living creature would put itself first 100% of the time; to say that they do not feel love, friendship, and compassion, is not only wrong, but it makes you look like an ass.

"The greatness of any city can be judged by the way it treats its weakest member." You can judge the character and quality of life in a community by how it treats its weakest members
It is said that a civilization is measured by how it treats its weakest members - including, of course, it children.

to me weakest means also animals. they are at our mercy and the value of a man should be measured by his action or lack thereof.
