    my gym experience

ok so I was in a gym for the first time ever today (highschool gym for PE). Most people on this site would love this gym. Loads of benches, bars, so many plates, a full garbage can of chalk, olympic bumper plates, trap bar, 10 + power racks, 2 pull-up stations with weight belts etc., and 3 machines: a leg press, lat pulldown, knee estensions/curls.

I was pretty surprised. Ofcourse most of the kids were becnhing and curling, but I think it is only because they don't know what else to do. So I started doing some rows and military presses hoping that they would see them, and immitate, and they did. They actually had good form on the exercises they were doing, full rom, slow and controlled. No 2 man bench pressing, they only touched the bar if the guy benching asked for it.

Now to the negatives. The only exercise they were not doing with full rom is back squats, but I believe it is just because they couldn't, not because they had an ego to lift more weight. The other negatives is on the black board it said " NO DEADLIFTS, OR FRONT SQUATS", are you kidding me?? Why would they allow back squats but not front squats . The last negative- there was a horrible routine on the chalk board "Curls, forearm curls, and wrist rollers" (I guess that was for one of the school teams, wasn't for us...

But overall i expected it to be alot worse, I thought all the kids would be doing half rom 2 man bench pressing, and body curls. At least they were doing pull-ups, and attempting to squat. Nobody was being an ass to people with that were using the lighter weights.

Oh almost forgot the biggest negative, when they put us in their to lift, they don't put any educated people with us to help with form, or get the kids warmed up, or show some examples of exercises to the kids.

Make sure that the crap about Deads and Front Squats on the board was from the teacher.

So the gym itself seems like the only positive.Atleast they have a wide range of equipment to use. When I was in high school our gym sucked. And there should really be someone trying to help these kids and show them proper form especially since they have a squat rack that can always be dangerous. It would be cool if the schools would spring for someone who specializes in youth training to work with each individual some and be present to monitor and help these guys.

They actually have 10 power racks, or just squat racks?

I'm currently out of town on Military Duty (School, not war this time). Anyhow.... there's a nice gym facility here that is shared by the military and civilian employees here at the base.

So I just finished up some Ab work and was hammering out an hour on the treadmill when I see this ENORMOUS (overweight) dude walk in wearing a bright canary yellow jogging suit with matching headband.

What really stuck in my head (besides his obese frame) was the 20 ounce Mt. Dew and large bag of Fritos in his hands!!!

Just felt like sharing that with you guys

That was Lemon Yellow and I'm only 10 pounds overweight....give me some credit I used to have the 64 ouncer and a large bag of french fries during my workouts, it's the gyms fault for selling that stuff

My School was tiny, and we still had about the same stuff as you, only squats, bench press, deadlifts, incline press, calf raises, and military press were all mandatory if you wanted to come in there. If you wanted to do more you could, but those were the mandatory lifts, and we all had charts that we had to fill out 3 days a week. Plus, we were given T-shirts for being the best at certain lifts. I still have my 275 Bench Press shirt from high school.

    That's pretty impressive. What BW?

I think I should come and train there, too. You should bet someone they can't do an exercise on their first try with 95 pounds and then introduce them to the Turkish get up. I've had the urge to do that for a while now...

We had all of that and this one machine where you could set it for squats and do explosive movements and set it at small increments because it was electronically programmed pneumatic resistance...then you turn around, push the calfs button and slide the platform under your feet and train calfs exploding into it.....a few month's using that and was dunking a basketball with ease people were like "Damn, white boys got ups!" even my friend 5'5" Wyatt was able to get himself up to dunking, but he was like Lattimer in the Program he would be in the weight room after just giving his all at a football game running offense and defense and scoring 6 TD's........total badass until he tore a ligament in his shoulder his senior year....

Sounds like a decent gym your school has there . I wonder if the coach just wrote that up their for the team "no deadlifts/front squats" if so owell i would do them anyway if no ones around. Even if they are around screw them. Can't wait for you to make a thread about your sex experience

Who cares what everyone in your gym is doing. You got a perfect gym to exercise. If there's no supervision, you can just deadlift/front squat and else ask permission. 9/10.
