Law and Order:Criminal Intent and CSI: Las Vegas are my favorites.....I can't stand that cheesy guy in Miami who rips his character straight off of Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord)
    Here he is:
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

On the TV show Monk, they made fun of CSI and it was spot on.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Monk is good, but it has been getting a bit too goofy recently.

Wow, no one wants to talk about 5-0? How about a campaign to bring the series to DVD?
Anyway, I recently was watching a few episodes of the show and was suddenly struck by the idea that David Caruso has been modeling his Horatio Caine after Steve McGarrett. I even found myself making a comparison list.

Makes overly dramatic statements of fact – check
Knows all, can do all – check
Inexplicably wears dark suits in a tropical climate – check
Has several underlings of various ethnic backgrounds to do his dirty work – check
Drives a huge gas guzzler – check
Has hot women falling all over themselves for him – check
Tries to use modern lingo to “relate” to young witnesses – check
Never, ever is wrong about anything – check
Everyone from the governor on down knows who he is – check
    Cuttimg blue eyes – check
Does a lot of standing around posing – check
    Wears cool sunglasses – check
Used to be a cop in New York – check
Overwhelming sense of justice – check

I’m sure there are others I haven’t thought of yet. There are a few differences too (like McGarrett did on occasion wear a light colored suit and we got to see him in casual attire every once in a while and McGarrett would actually go undercover on a regular basis – as if no one on Oahu knew who he was). The thing is that Jack Lord did it so much better than Caruso can even dream of. You wanted to believe in Steve, the wonder cop but you want the bad guys to win and put the beat down on Horatio.

some of it may be a little over the top, but for the most part its not sci-fi its real stuff. the problem with any csi in real life would be funding. those guys have all the new toys and it seems the over worked analysis guys in the show are like scotty from star treck in that they always get the job done in the perfect amount of time

Monk and criminal intent are better I agree but they are still not true. Maybe if it is an important crime but not everyone of them. How many murders per day in a city like vegas?

in 2003 there were 11.9 murders per 100,000 inhabitant of las vegas. about the middle of the pack for a large city.

interestingly enough a large group of crows is known as a murder. thankyou simpsons

It's sci-fi in the sense that the majority of the equipment they use doesn't even exist.

Rome 2 starts this Sunday, I got a whole bottle of wine waiting with some cheeses and crackers, then some chicken sausage jambalaya and wild rice mixed with white rice, and a spicy chili tomato sauce.......It's gonna be a good night.....especially if my dealer comes through.........
