Did you ever receive a good advice?

This is one of the things that makes me so mad.

Did someone ever teach you anything? I dont mean those advices that everyone says, like "go to school" or "eat some vegetables". I mean advices that are more like tricks in a video game, advices that will make you enjoy life in a different way. Example, "money is important sometimes" or "some women are really sluts". I know it seems really obvious to most of us now but it isnt when you are growing up and nobobdy says this to you.

So did someone ever teach you something useful?

Seinfeld taught me that you have to end it with a twist, usually clockwise but counter-clockwise can be substituted....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Vanity consistently gives me good advice but sometimes i need to settle for what i can afford so he helps me find the compromise. the tvs i just bougtht my kids aren't the best but they're probably a lot better than what i would have decided on alone. The lat machine was his idea, i was looking at some bowflex type thing.

Hah, actually that is good advice. My friend prolly got the same advice from someone else, but he said it correctly in front of me. He said the hardest thing that people have to accept is shit thats "out of their control."

My mother in law is a sweet lady who is currently fighting a horrible, losing battle with stomach cancer. It is likely she wont last through February. This is probably the hardest shit I ever couldn't do anything about, nor control. It is so fucking frustrating seeing my wife cling on to any miracle that might happen thinking it might delay the inevitable. In front of her, I have the warface on but damn, when it's quiet at night and I am alone in my office, the sad thoughts creep into my mind and my heart.

I learned it on my own, but my #1 piece of advice is: Don't sweat the small shit.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Same issues for me except it's my girls grandfather who raised her he's 88 and just withering away....the hard part is that I see it happening everyday because he lives in our guest house in the back, we have gotten to the point where we have to hand feed him because he can't control a fork or spoon. The doc's have said he barely has 6 weeks, but he seems to be getting better, I have been pumping him full of protein shakes for a well balanced diet to help put some weight on him....but yeah it's real tough and when the girls can break down and cry being the men we have to hold up until we're away...like the other day I sat in my reading chair in the den and started to get choked up and teary eyed thinking how hard his death will hit my girlfriend...

That's hard shit to go through but taking care of people you love who are sick to me proves you both have strong characters and big hearts. I helped take care of my younger sister for 3 years (she died last year) She had breast cancer that spread to almost ever organ of her body. I was really close to her- she was a super strong women- if I could only be half as strong as her, I would be a proud man. The first image I have of my childhood is when I went with my dad to the hospital when she was born, I still remember what hes said: "So what do you think of your new sister?" I don't remember what I said but I remember just being blown away by her. Her birthday is tomorrow; she would have been 33. The whole experience was hard but made me respect and appreciate life a lot more. I wish you both good luck.

My mom always told me "if you want to succeed, surround yourself with positive people. People who brood too much are always looking for the "why me?" answer."
When I teach I stay away from the staff that bitches and moans too much about the principal, the system and the government. It's weird because most of these types of people are older (in their late 40s and 50s) and more often, women. I'm not trying to sound chauvinistic, but it is what is in my experience. Usually the hoochie-babes who just start teaching are bright eyed and positive. Again, not trying to sound chauvinistic.

actually it was because of my parents allowing me to live home before I was married that I was able to buy a cafe.

Precisely. My friends were laughing at me because I was living at home. However, a cafe, teaching job and home for my wife, son AND my dog are more than a lot of what they have. Some are approaching 40 and don't own a home. I'm very lucky. I'm not snubbing them, but I am truly fortunate.

After losing my step-mother who I feel was my only mother at the age of 13, a best friend in 2000, my father in 2003, my last grandparent(my dad's father) last year and slowly watching my sister and brother waste away in Methville I'm learning to take it all in stride, I'm not saying I just shrug it off but I don't let it knock me down either, I store it away and use it for creative fuel...
