Where did these numbers come from?
Working my way through a lab report and i'm in need of some help explaining something.
Basic principle of the lab session was to find out what effect exercise intensity had on substrate utilisation.
After reading through some journals, it looks to be quite concrete that increasing intensity from low to moderate does not cause any increase in fat utilisation, but instead extra energy comes from muscle glycogen. This was in a fasted state might i add.
Now the fun part.
The average % of fat used to supply energy actually increased between light and moderate intensity exercise. It's unknown whether the subjects were in a fasted state or not, as they were picked about 5 minutes before the lab started.
Can anyone think of a reason why?
Heres the table too, if it helps;
If anyone can shed some light on this i'd be most appreciative![]()

6 subjects tested across 3 lab sessions.
Different times of the day unfortunately, so i was thinking that some subjects may be in a fasted so insulin levels are relatively undisturbed, others may have eaten prior to the exercise, so insulin levels are likely to be much higher.
All measurements came from an online gas analysis system.
Also, they weren't all tested in Low > Moderate > High. It was all randomised.
Subject 2 is an anomaly or a typo.

Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
