This one was pretty popular but, La Vita E Bella was a great foreign film. Pretty emotional at the end as well.
After almost 2 weeks... I am back and better than ever.

City of God (drama) and Shawn of the Dead (comedy)... two very different movies, but both were really good. I like Infernal Affairs (action/drama), which is the Hong Kong flick "The Departed" was based on. I have yet to see the latter, but the original Infernal Affairs was so popular it spawned a prequel and a prequel/sequel.

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

![]() I must say, I fucking laugh so hard at the Monty Python movies. There are completely their own kind of humor and it is awesome. |

> Minstrel: [singing] Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot. He was not afraid to die, oh brave Sir Robin. He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin. He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp, or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken. To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away, and his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin. His head smashed in and heart cut out, and his liver removed, and his bowels unplugged, and his nostrils ripped and his bottom burned off and his penis... Sir Robin: That's, uh, that's enough music for now, lads... looks like there's dirty work afoot.

It is impossible to say the best movie, there are many great movies from a lot of countries. Americans are not used to subtitles that is why I think most of you have a difficult time enjoying those movies but you really should see movies from Italy, France, Germany, Japan and so on.
The best movies I have seen were not made in America. Hollywood is great for movies with a lof of speciall effects, science fiction, adventure, comedy, those big movies. But when it is about suffering and real things, movies from other countries are better. They are a different type of movie, it seems more honest and true. |

I would avoid some French cinema, as it can be a bit pretentious. That said, films like Amilie and the original 'taxi' are excellent.

That pretty much sums it up. There are some big time movies that I loved though, like LOTR. That is one of the more recent ones.
I'm getting off topic though. |

Seventh Seal, Yojimbo, Metropolis, and many more too many are far too good to choose best, but you will find that like in America certain Directors dominate....
"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Natures inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."

OldBoy, Korean flick. Best film i've ever seen, hands down. And i've seen a LOT of films, and am also the most difficult person to please with movies in the world.
For god's sake, i even critique porn! But yeah "OldBoy" is the best film ever, foreign or otherwise.

Nah the graphic violence is what got me. The movie got a lot closer to the real world in some places. In the end when the guys arm was bent back and then broken, he was about to get butt-poked, then was saved by his friend as the perp's head was smashed in by repeated (what did they show about 15 shots to the head?) blows and the progression as his head went from normal to to paste. American reality based violence is never that real in both perspective and effect.

Yeah the fire extinguisher scene was unnecessary in my opinion. Why they would want to make it that graphic to sicken people is beyond me but that type of stuff doesn't bother me anyway because it is a movie. I can't stand when directors attempt to "shock" audiences through excessive violence and gore.
