How do you respond when someone calls you skinny?

Had lunch today with a female friend I haven't seen in about a year and she commented on how skinny I looked. Normally I wouldn't mind because it means I'm a faster runner/triathlete that way but as a former BB I still get those feelings of inadequacy. Do you ever get those "I'm not big enough" feelings? And I'm not just talking about when you take your pants off.

I told her that my ass was like granite and then she grabbed it so it was all good .

Yeah baby. Scoop came back and you could tell he had the guys fired up. Plus they stopped taking stupid penalties and shut down that little bastard with the orange shoes. Great game.

We sit in the golds across from the benches about 15 rows up, pretty good seats especially since we're on the aisle. Do you have seasons? There were a lot of Buffalo fans there last night.

Yeah I think they are 2-3 now. Not good.

I've been skinny all my life, so I'm not a happy camper when i get told I look skinny. It is the opposite of those who are fat (or extremly weight concious) get told they have put on weight. I'm happier if i get told I've put on weight (the good kind of weight). But i guess in todays obese world, telling someone they are skinny is a compliment and calling them fat is an insult.

How do i react? i just shrug it off.

Used to have season tickets since back in the maple leaf garden days. But with two kids... now I just mooch extra tickets off my friends/family when they are available.

Yeah we are always in the golds section 117 or 118, it is the corner. They have had those seats or around that area since, the second year they moved to Toronto from Hamilton.

I get it too. I don't mind. I'm in the midst of a cutting diet and have lost almost 30 pounds in the past month. People who haven't seen me in a couple weeks gasp and think I've got cancer or something.

Skinny? Hell I'm still 207 pounds!!!

At 5'10", I tip the scales at 205 or so. No one in their right mind would ever call me skinny.

As for feeling that I'm not really "all that big", this is common. This is even common among some of the more accomplished people on IM. I'm going from memory, but I think this includes people like fufu, Double D, Squaggleboggin, and even camarosuper6 (and he's huge). At one time or another, all of these guy (and more) have said that they don't feel that big.

I think most bodybuilders don't feel big for the same reason that many woman in the US feel they're not small enough: magazines and movies.

I'm not sure if most bodybuilders will admit it, or are even be aware of it, that they are basing thier size against the likes of Jay, Arnold, and Ronnie. I think that in the minds of most bodybuilders, they aren't comparing themselves to what they used to be or even the guy next to them in the gym. I think they're comparing themselves to professional bodybuilders, no matter that they're often far bigger (in terms of muscle mass) than 90% of the people around them.

That's just my two cents.

I get called skinny every so often and I hate it. I think I'm the type who looks skinny but gets pleasantly surprised looks when I take my shirt off or am wearing fitted shirts/beaters. I used to be happy with my weight, but now I feel I need to bulk up 15 pounds of muscle, cut 5 pounds of fat.

DOMS, I completely agree with what you said ("I think most bodybuilders don't feel big for the same reason that many woman in the US feel they're not small enough: magazines and movies."). In fact, we had this same discussion in a class last Friday.

Then this thread is a yes. http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...ad.php?t=75319 (Do you consider bulking/cutting an eating disorder?)

Bulkorexia is what I like to call it.

What DOMS says. I don't feel big at all, but most schoolmates think I'm fucking huge and can't get any bigger. I've been called fat sometimes too, always by people that see me for the first time and just look at my size (11% bf). I've never been called skinny, but that's because most/all kids at my school are casual skinny teenagers.

It depends on the person that is commenting, if they are fat then their comment is worthless. If they are buff and cut and can actually gauge you then it has merrit.

I'm in the same boat as you dude. I look skinny on the outside but when i take off my shirt or wear beaters and fitted shirts like you said, i get the "surprised looks" from people but i still need to put on another 10-15 pounds.
