"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Natures inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."

With the human population at 6.5 billion and the total sales of The Bible around 5-6 billion a lot of people wouldn't been able to vote.

I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

In the Bullshit Department, a businessman can't hold a candle to a clergyman. 'Cause I gotta tell you the truth, folks. When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims: religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told.
Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you.
He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit! - George Carlin

When this country's government was founded, nearly everyone involved was deeply religious. You can see it on the money that they printed, the legal documents that they created, and in the words they used.

Now, a couple of hundred years later, religion has a far less of a presence in the US government and, in the same time, things have gotten s-o-o-o much better here in the US.

I see the connection. I'm not blind. When people fear the vengeance of an all powerful being, they are less likely to act up. That is common sense. That doesn’t mean that a religious extreme group of people should be making the decisions, especially when they can't follow their own rules.

Plus, we are all prisoners to our own character, and reading a book is not going to change anything. If you are a piece of shit, you will still be a piece of shit even when sitting in church and proclaiming your love for your almighty bla bla bla.

The truth of it is that there is no connection; but pro-religious people and anti-religious people are always trying to find one.

It's a combination of people romanticizing about the past and other people trying to blame anything but themselves because they don't want self-responsibility.

I already know the answer, but I am curious about what you think. What are People blaming on religion that they should be blaming themselves for?
