Columbine Shooting Training

I took an 8 hr training class yesterday on Rapid response training. The main training theme was from the Columbine high school shootings in Colorado. I must say some of the films we watched were utterly amazing. These kids walked around the school laughing and joking and having a good time, while at the same time, shot their classmates. We discussed several aspects of the actions/non actions of police, paramedics and others. It was a complete screwup..........because nothing like this or of this magnitude had ever happened at a school. All schools now have an emergency plan in effect along with emergency contacts and hopefully with new police training in how to deal with this type of situation, it will never be this bad again. But the thing I completely do not understand is this. The kids that did the shooting, had an arsenal of guns, pipe bombs, materials, manuals and everything else in their room. I don't remember the exact number but it was staggering. The parents of the two kids I don't think have ever made public statements, but they have been on record saying they had no idea that these kids had all this in their room. Well, where the hell had they been?? Did they not live there? Even their classmates knew they had the stuff and they even posted blogs on the internet about killing some of their friends. The police even questioned them and nothing was never done about it.
It goes back to my honest opinion, that most of all teenage trouble makers, come from a family that does not care or even keep up with their children. SAD.

Here is a short clip of some of the recordings. You can see them walking around shooting, stopping, reloading and shooting more as their classmates are hiding under the table, knowing they are getting ready to get shot. You can see one explosion and another pipe bomb explode and a fire start.

This is what comes of taking the ideology of "someone else's problem" and mixing is with parenting.

Know what I find kind of strange? It was 2 vs. 100's. I am kind of surpised noone went gung ho on their asses. Or did any? You'd think in a situation like that someone would do go after them when faced with death.

Most adults would have just waited around to die, and were talking about children.

It's nice to think that in such a situation that someone would come forward and try to save the day, but it just isn't so. I'm willing to bet that in a similar situation involving adults, most (practically all) would just run and hide. Only a small percentage of adults would actually be willing to charge them.

I think the number of children that would do such a thing would be even less.

I've said it many times before that if a few of those kids had firearm education and a few hunter safety courses like all of the kids do in the south, that shit would have been taken care of much sooner. When I was in high school, there were still kids who drove to school with their hunting rifle in their gun rack in their back glass of their truck, and nothing was ever said.

Had that shit happened at my school, some kid that hunts, and could shot the dick off of a mockingbird at 200 yards would have picked those fuckers off in 3 minutes?

I graduated HS in 1982. We had an archery club and would bring our compound bows to school and shoot on the practice football field. Times have surely changed. No one thought of such a thing just 25 yrs ago.

They were kids, but the attackers would kids as well. I wouldn't think alot of people would try to stop them, but with so many I would imagine atleast a few would snap and try to do something. I guess that shows us a few things about society.

Not sure how knowing the proper ways to carry and shoot a firearm while hunting would have much transfer in to "How to dodge bullets 101". I took my hunter's safety test when I was 6 and I'd be damned if I remember anything other than how to carry a rifle properly. I think someone should have fragged those fuckers, or at least jumped them from behind...How many emos do you know who can fight? I mean, come on, they are emos.

If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Yeah, it does. With the exception of a few nuts, children at a mostly white high school aren't predisposed to violence, even when it could save their lives.

Now, if that happened in a Compton high school...

And there in lies the problem.

It's no wonder that children snap and that we have so many dysfunctional adults. Since the '60s, we've been increasingly treating our children like they are morons. Back in the 50s, a .22 rifle was considered a good toy for an 8 year old child. A child's chemistry set came with acids strong enough to etch metal. And what about these days? A sling shot is considered a firearm and if a toy doesn't have all rounded edges, it isn't safe.

We treat them like they can't take care of themselves, so, as a self-fulfilling prophesy, they can't. They feel helpless and scared.

Now, add to that the lack of active parenting and what do you get?

Graduated in '94 we did the same... but they were probably teaching us how to hunt seal to bring back to our igloos

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

I guess I get to throw in that we can blame this on liberals!
I got a .410 shotgun when I was 7/8 and was hunting squirrell on my own.
I really think it is more of lack of parenting though. Because before I could shoot that shotgun, my father taught me how to shoot and the proper use and safety of it. Now you have parents that have no idea what in the hell their kids do. They should have held the parents responsible for the deaths.

Did you even ever consider touching any of the guns in your father's cabinet? That thought never even crossed my mind...What would happen to me if I did crossed my mind frequently, though.

You missed the point. I was saying had one of those kids had a gun, and knew how to use one, they could have saved a lot of kids. My dad expected me to learn hwo to handle a firearm when I was 6 years old. He also taught me to respect its power, but the lessons I carry to this very day. That is why I carry my pistol with me in my car at all times.

Lawl, so relegious conservative parents are producing most of the serial killers in the US? Hahahaha. You are actually going to blame liberials for school shootings? How about blame the parents. How about blame the school staff for not having reconized the problem rather than ignore it.

More info for those interested

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbi...chool_massacre

Also, see school shooting history

What i don't quite understand is that the majority of these shootings took place in mostly Western and Midwestern states. Do they have more access to guns? Is it easier to recieve a licence to buy firearms?

Where i went to school in Mass, my school had no security system and no police officers patroling the school. There were too many entrances that did not require a "check-in". Anyone could have easily gone on a rampage in my school.

Yeah, I don't think there is anyone who will dispute that, but what does political correctness have to do with shitty parenting?

A good conservative parent will raise good kids. I good liberial parent will raise good kids. The political beliefs of the parents has nothing to do with school shootings.

I think DG said the parents should be held responsible, and thta is the best thing that can be done. If your child is under 18, then the parents should be helf responsible for everything that kid fucks up. I bet parents would pay attention then.
