    Home Remodeling...its actually a workout.

I'm remodeling my bathroom this weekend, and I have to tell you they loved to use concrete in midwestern homes in 1955. My walls and floor both had a solid inch of concrete behind the tile and of course its held together by that chicken wire mesh stuff.

I found myself working up a sweat and was actually dead tired last night when I put the tools down at 10pm. I wonder if the amount of calories burned during certain house work has ever been properly documented. I see fitday.com has numbers for certain home repair, but I can only consider those reckless speculation.
I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

Technically it's not concrete it's lath and plaster. If you're removing the wall it's certainly a pain in the ass. I'd grab the old sledge and go postal.

Hmmm could have fooled me its grey in color and certainly has the weight to it

Either way its all down now and there were a few studs to address under the window and such, but we're good to go now. When I get home at noon I'm going to start drywall and taping.

Did you move a wall or just remove one?

I certainly don't envy you. I love framing and ruff work but that drywall shit is for the birds or should I say the Mexicans.

Try removing vinyl flooring through out a whole home and scraping up all the glue, and then laying in tiles. Try doing all that after 7AM-5PM workday...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Yep I just tore down a wall in my kitchen.

    Plastering and Sanding sucks balls.

As to your original question. I guess it depends the comparison to what you would normally do during that time.

I know a few Messican masons. Brick laying types not the ring wearing types. These guys have prodigious bulging bellies that make them look like they're about to give birth. They can crush a volkswagon with the power they developed over the years working the trade though ...

Ok heres the skinny house was built in 1955, I'm fourth owner and everyone before me has just either painted, glazed or added a layer of shit. Not being the half ass type in anything I take on, I ripped the bath down to the studs. Ended up replacing five studs under the window, the sill, the door and jamb, and then re-drywalled and durocked the area. I'll post some before and afters when I put wraps on it which I expect to be tuesday or wednesday.

All in all not bad to erase 52 years on neglect and fuck in five days.

Yeah my father is 50 and he has owned his construction company for 30 years, so naturally I worked for him from 12-18yrs old. Then went off on my own career. That being said, I've had my fair share of experience and shitty jobs for him. He is horribly out of shape, but has upper body strength that is simply un-canny. I've witnessed him as of two years ago bench 300lbx6 on a bet from my younger brother. However he does have the trade related budha belly as mentioned above.
