What are some secrets you've learned about the places you've worked?

I love my job now, but I have learned the dark side of antique sales being a refinisher.

First off, half of the antiques are fakes. You can't tell until someone brings a piece back to be fixed. When I cut into the wood to install peg supports, half of the time I can see where the wood was cut with a modern blade or the internal structure was made from a processed wood pulp with antique veneer glued around it.

Also the markup on antiques is about 1000%, lawl. Our broker collects the stuff in Europe for 100 euros and we are selling it $5,000 - $30,000 to all of the rich fucks in Springhill.

If you really really know what you are doing, antiques are beautiful and a great way to give you place some style and class. but, if you don't know what you are doing, you will get burned so bad. So, be careful.

What are some deep dark secrets about your profession?

That you can not go to class and still get B's on exams.

Well, it isn't work...but it's the closest thing I got to it.

My uncle owns a huge restaurant back home that I worked at for 4 years as a cook, and I also worked at a sports bar for a year as a barback. Trust me, I know.

    mwahahahhaa

After working in a restaurant I am hesitant to go to any. If I do, I make sure I am very polite to the wait staff.

Never give an auditor everything that they ask for. Start by giving them half. Wait until they bug you two or three more times, then give them a little more. The less information they have, the better off you are.

I worked at a high end diamond store. The place had a million dollar ring. I know that the security in the place is a big front. The place got robbed once by three masked jokers with shotguns. They stole millions of merchandise. The crazy thing was that the cameras were not working at the time so the police did not have much to go on. I don't know if they caught the robbers but the place has so much insurance it doesn't even matter- it's just paper work to them. The funny thing the security guards are all huge guys- to intimidate potential thieves and make the clients feel safe- but the majority of them have limited training.
I wanted to rob that store every day I worked there- I thought of so many ways to do it without getting caught but didn't have the balls to go through with it. The idea ended up with taking a sac filled with the "items" to the roof then throwing the sack into the back of a truck driving in front of the building at a prearranged time.

I used to work at a warehouse with hardcore racists. This guy used to joke about other workers. He'd talk about tying them to a pole in the basement and making them pick cotton, he was a real nutjob. Right in front of th eboss too, the boss was laughing. Good fork lift driver though.

Probably not, and that's pretty scary. All I know is if you're shipping something that's very fragile and expensive, make sure you get the insurance on the item. I don't know how many packages I seen thrown against trucks during my time there.

Too bad the job I used to have would throw me in Leavenworth if I told any of their secrets...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

I used to work in the rental car business and I'll tell you I never rent a car unless I have to. We were trained to lie lie lie. Reservations didn't matter, if the car went out for higher rate or we liked the person then that person got the car. The insurance is a total waste of money they force people to buy. The company was a cult.

The cars were drivien to shit and then sold back to dealers sometimes for more than we bought them for. If you are looking at a used car with 40,000 km and only a year old, it was a rental - DO NOT BUY IT. We would never get any service done unless we had to.

Employees were worked like dogs and turnover was massive. I could go on but I'd rather not think about it.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.
