    Saving files help

Whenever i try to save a file or document on my computer such as saving a file from microsoft word or a picture from an email, it doesn't do anything.

I use the save-as option and save it to desktop and when i save it, it doesn't show up. I tried saving it to different folders as well and still get nothing. The only thing i can do is just to open it up and that still works but i need to be able to save it for later use.

    How can i fix this?

Your lap top hard drive isn't by chance almost full and very fragmented, i.e. 200MB free space and never defragged?

Although it should have warned you about swap file space by then probably.

    that is a possibility...

Right click on your Start button and click on Explore, then left click once on Local Disk C: and look in the bottom left corner and it will tell you how much disk space is free.

Maybe you have viruses. Does your school have a place where you can take your computer to get looked at? I had to do this once several years ago.

After you 'save' it, go to Start>Search, type in the name you gave it (files & folder), and see what this digs up. It will list it in it's saved location if, the save worked, but did not show up. Right click anywhere on desktop> check show desktop items> refresh.

Where's doms when you need him?

There is nothing wrong with my laptop. It's only a year old and i do not have a virus. All i'm saying is that when i try to save something to my desktop or to a particular folder, it doesn't show up therefore it's not "saved".

Taylor - i don't know what u mean by a thumb drive. What is it?

Prince - i did what you said and this is what i see ..

    Used Space - 10.9 GB
    Free Space - 63.5 GB
    Capacity - 74.5 GB

Goob - i tried and still got nothing

Just because it is relatively new, doesn't mean it couldn't have a virus. I have a friend who just bought a computer about a month ago and it already has viruses. He downloads a lot though. Anyhow, something is wrong with your computer, that's for sure.. you should take it somewhere to get it checked out.

    naw man....don't waste your money.

computer problems are easy to fix......there's enough techies on IM to help you.

but I agree......how old your computer is has nothing to do with having a virus or not. You can get it on the first day using it....but it's no biggie....just run a quick scan so you can rule that out.

if worse comes to worse....formats fixes everything.

If you have a new computer you got to have a thumb driver or atlesat you should if you have a good computer. It would be located like this if you do.

If you do, then get one of these

and see if you can get a file to save on there. The small storage size ones are pretty cheap and can be bought just about anywhere.

    Update:

I just tried using a jumpdrive and i realized that i am ABLE to save files from microsoft word or other documents onto my desktop, jumpdrive, or any folder.

I meant to say that i can't save images. To see if it would work, i tried to save an image i found off of google and when i saved it to the jumpdrive, the light blinked meaning that it was saved but it just didn't show up in the folder. I mean, it was fine a week ago but i remember that my computer froze when i was saving a bunch of pictures to my computer and then the pictures wouldn't show up anymore after i restarted it the computer.

When you save it do you put.jpg or.gif or anything after the filename? If you don't then it might be that all of your images are there but hidden: (or someone is fucking with you and has set all the files to use the hidden attr.)?

Open the folder where you think they are,
click Tools > Folder Options > View > under Hidden Files & Folders > click the radio button that says Show Hidden Files & Folders > Click Apply and exit....now see if you can see the files, if so you will need to rename them as .jpg, .gif, .bmp, etc.

    Has the issue been resolved?
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.
