It's not about music, it's about image.
Image oriented music sucks.
YES, I'd rather listen to a syphony of nails on blackboards
NO, I'z lovin it, man, at da club.
Modern R & B music?
Really? Any fans out there? I hate it, I mean, really, really hate it.
Every song sounds the same, they follow the same structure:
Wailing deva, sounding like a cat with its balls in a vice getting hung (mariah carey). Then the 'rap' part starts, punctuate by a spastic language that sounds like it has been written by a retarded two year old. Even worse, if they pretend to be stuttering Jamacan: (e.g Sean Paul - illiterate twat).
The music is stripped down, and sounds more like a malfunctioning modem then a tune. The beats are more processed than a KFC, and sound like an arthritic 3 legged horse wearing clogs walking on a wooden floor. And not nearly as interesting.
And why do they all have to be "in da club"? Do you fuckers go anywhere else?
So, please, please, someone who likes this 'music' explain what the attraction is?
Rant over.

It's not about music, it's about image.
Image oriented music sucks.
I like some:
Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, The Temptations, Sam Cooke, ect.
Not the modern crap like Ginuwine, Usher or anything like that though.
I'm doin mah thing, i'll putta hole in a N*gga i aint motha fuckin playin. G-G-G-G-Unit![]()

Curtis Mayfield owns, except he isn't modern.
There's Rythum & Blues - Curtis Mayfield, Temptations, etc...
And then there's
R n'B - Usher, and Mariah and all that crap. - It's this lot that I was meaning in the original post.
Some of Alicia Keys, Macy Gray, Aaliyah can be ok. I can't think of much modern R&B. A lot the modern stuff has too much hip-hop influence to be true to it's rhythm and blues roots.
That's cause it all sounds the same.
I'd wager that you only really remember Aaliyah, & Alicia Keys cos there hot. The hottest is Amerie IMO.
That's very true. But it's stripped the best bits of hip hop away too, and mutated into some horrible cross-breed.A lot the modern stuff has too much hip-hop influence to be true to it's rhythm and blues roots.
I can't remember any good modern stuff I mean. I can think of a million different ones Ginuwine, Usher, Joe, Ciara, Rhianna, Cassie, Destiny's Child, Nina Sky, Ashanti, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J., Brandy, Avant, Erykah Badu, R. Kelly ect. ect. ect. Most of the R&B hoes are good lookin. I just mentioned the other ones because I don't mind them as much and think they have more talent than the majority.

lawl, I kind of like R. Kelly.
I can't stand 99% of it.
It's one saving grace:
The women in the videos are HOT, so you can turn the volume down on your TV, and put on a good CD on the stereo, to go with the dancin' hotties.
I am loving the new JoJo cd.

I dispise it.

The Doobie Brothers, all the way.

I love that shit. I love it turned up load as hell in the car in someone else's neighborhood where I don't have to fucking listen to it cuz it makes my ears feel like someone is pissing in 'em..
BTW ... WTF is a diva anyway? Is Cher still a diva or is there an age restriction?
A diva is a female opera singer, but now the term also refers to a popular female performer of non-operatic works. The term was originally used to describe a woman of rare, outstanding talent. The term derives from an ancient Italian word meaning "goddess", which, in turn derives from the feminine form of a Latin word divus, meaning "divine one."
The term sometimes is misused to imply a negative connotation, implying that a pop star who labels herself a "diva" is arrogant, difficult to work with, high-maintenance, or demanding.
TIME magazine observed in its October 21, 2002, issue: "By definition, a diva was originally used for great female opera singers, almost always sopranos." Often today "diva" is used to describe any extremely independent and talented woman; however, the term still applies to the classical arts.

If a major label is selling a band, then yes. Even though they have an image(possibly given by the label) that doesn't mean their music has the reflect it, though.
Also, when I use "image", I am partially implying something fake, like some sort of front.
I think there is a difference between an image given by the song, and an image percieved by the listener.

I read on CNN.com that rap sales are dramatically down this year. Something about a top 10 in so much of time and not one of the songs was rap.
I know its not R&B, but just goes to show that not everything lasts.

My friend and I used to watch Rap videos and laugh our asses off. Especially the less popular songs, the shit the director made them do, my god.
"Ok guys, now I want all of you to run to the camera for no reason."
"Dingleberry, I need you to walk up to the camera and growl."
"I need everyone to line up and look hard and tough even though you weigh 120lbs each...oh except you, I need you to smile while pushing a shopping cart."
