Would you let a female be your personal trainer?

Apparently Personal training is no position for a woman. This weekend the phone rang at my house. I answered. (remember, both my husband and I hold trainer certifications from the same company, issued the same month)

    - Hello
    - Yes, may I speak with Mr. SheLifts?
    - He's outside, can I take a message for him.
    - Yes, this is Sexist Asshole, and I recently opened up a new gym
in City, State. and I am looking for trainers to fill some positions. I
got his name from ISSA when I got a list of all personal trainers
in the area. I wanted to see if he was intersted in meeting me
    for an interview.
    - Let me get your # and I'll pass this message along.

He never called back to ask about me. I would have been on that same list.

    Damn him!!!

    31. Check the back seat; 32. Enjoy the little things

    You're making assumptions.

You don't really know if your were on the list that he was given. Maybe the list that he was given was already filter by sex, age, or some other criteria.

Maybe he likes to have a certain percentage of male and female trainers, and he'd already filled the female positions.

Maybe he only has one position left and chose your husband over you for any number of valid reasons.

I'm not saying that he wasn't sexist, I'm saying that you're getting worked up on assumptions and not facts.

DOMS, i'm sure there's a reason behind it.

It just aggrivated me. i'm already working in a man's field and I see the descrimination in this field and don't want it to carry over into the fitness department.

We were joking that i should go to cosmetology school to get out of the 'man's world' type jobs.

Depends on what kind of training it is?
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

There's a lot of sexism out there, but you can't let it color your personality. That will close doors to you.

I would let a female train me if she has a good reputation as a knowledgeable trainer. Hell, I would really like it if she knew her stuff and was fine as hell. I think I would push harder.

    Welcome to my world!

I'm sure there are other reasons other than sexist as DOM's and others mentioned above. However, if you are going to work in a so-called "man's field" that you need to harden up. It gets a whole lot worse than this.......a whole lot worse!

Education doesn't do crap if you already know your stuff. You need to be confidant, persistent and don't take no for an answer. Show them what you are made of.

lol ... you said "push harder".

How many male trainers have we all seen in the local gym that had no real clue about the things we've learned here at IM? Diet, recovery time, stabilizer muscles, static hold time, push/pull routines just to name a few are what I care about. Gender is really not an issue IMHO ... knowledge of how to get me to be my best is.

Obviously she would need to be able to show ... just as a man would ... that she has already put herself in top condition first.

Frankly I'd rather have a female trainer than a man. Not only for the fact a hot woman would be doing yoga with me but generally they know more about my type of strength training. Most (not around here, but...) guy trainers only focus on lifting and getting huge and have no clue about anything else.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

    Besides my earlier comment,
I see dumb trainers doing dumb things
with their clients all the time...

    Stupidity does not discriminate

Its a roll of the dice whether the trainer you get is an idiot
or a certified genius... (unless you hand-pick them)

would you hire a male to watch your kids? or clean your house?

Not to make this into a sexist argument, but on the top of your list for both jobs I would think that female would instantly pop into your head, and a male applicant would shock you a little bit at first...?

    I dunno...to me it would I guess
