The zombie genre is my favorite too! The best movie for that was Dawn of the Dead (the more recent one), in my opinion. It gave a better image of how it would look if we lost. Also, another good zombie book is World War Z by Max Brooks. Great book about a world completely overrun by the dead. I can't wait to see 28 Weeks Later!
On another note, I'd be relatively safe in my dorm room as it's in a 12-floor tower but I wouldn't stay here cuz there's no food.
