Its a dumb idea. Gamers have been changing the configuration of their keyboard layout for long time though custom configuration built into the game. Anyway, with a game, you forget what the key says, and learn where the key is building hand eye coordination with the keys. The ctrl button stops being ctrl, and becomes jump in your mind.
As far as applications go, who actually has problems doing what they want with a $19.00 keyboard. If you are having problems with photoshop, its you, not the keyboard or application.

I'm learning Japanese, and I'd kill for a keyboard that could change the keys to kanji, hiragana, or katana with the push of a button.

I remember when the idea of this keyboard was first concieved back in 2005. My gaming friends and I all had the same conclusion. Anyone who takes gaming serious enough to spend that much money on gaming does not need the keyboard to say anything.

For most of us the keys could be blank and it wouldn't matter 'cause when you're playing games like first person shooters (like the keyboard example configuration showed on the site linked) you're not going to be looking down at the keys... if you have to look at the keys you're certainly not a gamer.

As far as the other options... lets say you want dvorak, or chinese, or any other configuration; if you're still looking at the keys you should just buy the keyboard that suits you (like the chinese one) which would maybe run you $50 on ebay when it's all said and done.

Unplug USB keyboard, plug in other USB keyboard... total time: 10 seconds. You really want to spend $1,500 to save yourself 10 seconds?
