You know... the funny thing about what you posted is that I have new neighbors building a house next to mine.

They are leaving San Fran and establishing a management base for thier company in Oklahoma. They said they are sick of the outrageous taxes, high crime, and obscene housing prices.

It would appear that not everyone thinks so highly of San Fransisco.

I plan to make as much money as fast as possible in a big city like LA, San Francisco, or New York, but I know that I will eventually retire on about 30 acres of woods, and pastures in the middle of nowhere. I really love the piece and quite of my country home growing up. All you could hear at night was a symphony of frogs, crickets, and other insects.

I was offered a transfer out there for a lot of freaking money and when I started looking at the house prices and general cost of living, I realized that I would actually be losing money with the promotion instead of gaining.......... Since then, I've definately decided that I could NEVER live there. Besides, it looks way to cluttered out there for me.

Looking on the net we've seen some nice little places, I'm not talking dead center San Fran like Marina, more like Richmond or at least 30 minutes out in any direction.....

My GF plans on getting in with the Hilton's here as a Banquet Manager.Captain and then transfering.....me I can find a job doing anything..my resume is impressive, graduated top of my classes in High School, Military and College so I have no problem getting work....hell I could sustain myself making websites and fixing computers on the side.......

richmond marina? those houses are easily in the millions cuz..and if u r talking about the regular part of Richmond, u better be careful what part u move in to because Richmond is one of the most violent cities in the Bay Area.. u haven't been out here to see the area first huh>?

I've been there but you really can't gauge neighborhoods just by driving through them thats why I am asking where the better parts of that area are, I told her I'd rather live around Berkley....that was the nicest place I hung around because one of the engineers my company has on payroll has his office there and I spent 2 days and nights there walking around....

Trust me I can handle violent neighborhoods I was raised in the slums of Houston for many years, even lived through 2 drive-by's. But I'd rather know where the safe places are for my GF's sake....

Actually one of the houses I saw in my range was next to a golf course maybe some of the houses are millions, but there are $500,000 4 bed/3 baths as well......the home my GF owns now is worth $950,000 just because it has five bdrms, 3 bath, 1.5 kit, 2 living rooms and is right next to Waikiki.....

My uncle lived in San Fran for a long time. He's gay. I kind of get the feeling that only gay people like the atmosphere San Fran represents. Most of the crime I gather is from outlaying areas because that's where the cheaper housing is. Otherwise you're looking at a pretty penny for a home. Good luck eitherway.

Surprisingly we have been hitting on some sweet little pads in any of the areas, I mean the price of this home is $950,000 and my GF owns it thanks to the quick actions of her grandfather in the 1940's he bought 3 homes from the 40's to the late 60's for cheap and she inherited this one. Honolulu is just as congested with the gay community so it's no change....I think it will give me better exposure for my poetry and writing, plus the Junior college I got my Associate Degree from has a campus there and offer job placement asistance for life so I'll use that to my advantage....

I just find it fascinating to be able to move to the grounds where my literary heroes like Kerouac and music heroes the Dead stomped, there must be some energy there that may help me to refine my art, or at least get me in with crowds who share my passions because Hawaii is a dead zone for me as I've tried to surround myself with like minded individuals and have failed due to the almost non-existent creative minded culture here....I took classes for Creative writing here and the only ones who had the same passion as I were my teachers, who to this day use samples of my writing as examples in their courses not to be bold or anything but it's true, I met one of them recently at the mall and he told me that he still has 2 of my works he uses to show his students that they too can achieve it if they want it.....he was disappointed that I have still been too afraid of rejection to submit any of my works, he told me to stop being so humble about it because it was good enough 6 years ago and I must have gained even more maturity in my work since then.....so I really hope I can break out in the art scene ofthat world, no not hope..I know I will....

And this is the punchline right? That doesn't exist 50 miles away from SF.

Definitely not inside of SF, high 200s will get you a condo. If you want 4/5 bedroom action for anywhere under a million, its going to be way outside of SF, i.e. Fresno or Los Banos.

My buddy just moved up there. Just like everyone has said, no way you'll find a place like that for under a mil. Definitely stay away from Richmond or the East Bay in general.

Look a little more south, like Sunnyvale.

Way too far, my GF will be working as a Banquet Manager at one of the Hilton's in San Fran so we'd like to be within 10 miles, maybe Daly City. How is that place??? We have found some nice little homes all over the city, Bernal Heights, Marina you guys may think all the homes are Millionaire homes but there seems to be a mix. Some of them have been beautiful with hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, 2 story, nicely gardened backyards all around $650,000 to $700,000 which we could swing we just wanted to keep $75,000 to $150,000 handy so I can continue my education or so we can fix up the home better and other things.....we plan on taking a couple short 3 day home shopping trips prior to finalizing, but right now we have no idea what places are the nice ones and which are the horrible slum areas?????
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
