Angry Frustration with people that dream of better physiques

Let me start out with the appropriate smileys...

Ok, weve all heard this shit before, but today really got to me for some reason.

Friend A...she is on and off diets and working out constantly, but this time really sounded like shed pull through. She had motivation, ambition, excitement. She had a "boot camp" type of trainer at this old gym I went to that trains her for FREE. She was dropping off her daughter at the day care and going 3-5 days a week. Supposedly on a good diet too. WELP! She was having a hard time breathing so she went to the Dr. and he said she has asthma. His recommendation? "Dont workout as hard." Ok thats reasonable to me. Only shes "scared" of her trainer now and that he wont go easier on her. Now I hear the words "i think I can" rather than "I AM going to be skinny." She wants to avoid her trainer, she said her membership is up on June 18, her daughter is going to be out of school, and that shes worn out from the breathing shit.

Friend B...had surgery on a hernia. Since he was bedridden, bored, and sick of the way he looked in the mirror, he opted to start working out at my friends gym for FREE. I trained him a couple of time for FREE and got him into thinking about what to eat. He went to the gym 3-5 times and now just runs. He doesnt take in any protein besides what is frozen and that he can microwave or bake. (chicken nuggets, fish sticks etc). He drinks as long as he has the money to buy them (capt morgan & diets), never sleeps enough.

Ive got some other friends I can describe, but fuck it. I know everyone on here has heard these stories and know theres nothing you can do. I just find it extremely fucking PATHETIC. I seriously think there is something wrong with me. I cant think of this and not just think of disgust and embarrassment.

I had a herniated disk and I still managed to get to the gym. Ive had a busy schedule before and I still found time!

Its really made me wonder if I am hanging out with the wrong crowd. Besides Repro and I, everyone else looks and/or acts the same when it comes to a healthy lifestyle.

    How about ...

Friend C - They always say they are determined to start now, to start fresh and clean up their diet and sign up for the gym. They go to the gym for one day and eat clean as well. The next day, they are too tired and go back to their old habits by eating junk or barely eating at all. A couple weeks later, they go through this cycle again and it repeats all over again.

Thats a pretty good description of my Friend B. I thought being bedridden for a month would be a good motivator this time, but nope.

I think we know the same guy. I started working out with this guy who didn't know what he was doing, got his strength up, taught him good form. Well, after a month or two he wasn't looking like Arnold so he stopped lifting all together! Now he tells me that WE should try this workout that he read in Men's Health cause it promises like 2" on your arms in 4 weeks or something like that. I told him good luck with that but I'm sticking with what works for me.

Now that would annoy me beyond belief. My friend doesnt read that shit, so he doesnt have a clue about this shit. He would ask me for advice, but he wont follow it.

Meanwhile, my friend is married to...

Friend D...after getting married and somehow experiencing a bulged disk (from what I dont know), she decided she wanted to lose some pounds. She got on some diet and joined Din Thomas's kickboxing class. She stopped drinking and supposedly kept on the diet. Few months go by and WHA-LA. Full natural fucking results. Shes still big, but shes got some dicipline to help her get through the rest.

Whered that fucking hunger come from? Howd she do it? 25 years of being a lazy bum, all turned around in less than a year. How...how the fuck...?

It really doesn't annoy me that much. I guess it would be like rich people being annoyed with poor people wishing they were rich. I know day dreaming gets people nowhere, and the fewer that workout means I get pushed closer to the top for having a good looking body. Less competition is fine with me. Yes, I'm pathetic, I compare myself to others when I am at the gym sometimes.

I might seem shallow by saying this, but Friend A is a good friend. She is really something, but shes just overweight. I amnot sexually attracted to her, but I want to be. So yea, Id be very interested in her losing weight, but I always end up saying "god dammit" in my head when she finds these excuses.

The excuses. Thats what gets me. And when it rains, it pours. Friend B is just plain LAZY, but Friend A, my god, id rather her just say that she doesnt want to do it.

    1. kid being out of school? DAY CARE
    2. gym membership expiring? renew it or get another one that is closer
    3. afraid of the trainer? tell him to calm down or fuck off
    4. asthma? right, no one that has asthma is in shape

Speaking of which, is it possible to develop asthma like she has? She starting working out and dieting last monday (oooh, a whole week). She doesnt run out of breath during her workouts, but when she is at rest, her chest tightens and she cant breathe.

Ive never heard of this before, so someone chime in!

She might just not be noticing the tightness/shortness of breath while working out, but when she isn't concentrating on something she will then start to notice it. I have a thing with seasonal asthma/allergies where I'll be fine one second, then the next thing I know I'm blacking out from not being able to breath.

It's no excuse though, it just means you be careful with your pacing until you work through it and your body adapts.

maybe most of it is in her head. Maybe she doesn't like this whole working out stuff so she makes something up subconsciously or someone "planted a seed" like chest pain. Before you know it, her chest is starting to hurt a little bit and she freaks out and shuts down.

    But yes.

I have friends like that. In fact, MOST of them are like that. I dont mind the ones who, when we get talking, plain admit that they have no interest in being fit. Sure, i dont get it - not wanting to be healthy is fucking stupid - but at least they're honest.

Its the ones that talk like they really want to do it, like "Gaz, i really wanna get fit and healthy! Ive changed my diet and all! Could you make me a program?" so of course, being a generous son of a gun, i do.

    What happens next?

"No...that wont work. On TV they said you should do THIS to lose weight. I want to do that, they must be right otherwise they wouldnt be allowed to say that on TV."

Some hit a point in their lives (I know I did) where the price to pay for getting fit and healthy (busier schedule,. time away from friends, family AND old habits, blood, sweat and tears in the gym, diet adjustments, lifestyle changes) is lower than the bill associated with being obese and unhealhty.

I spent 20+ years of my life not giving a shit about the way I looked, not caring for how my weight or the state of my body would affect me long term... and trust me, it showed.

ow I snapped out of it, one day, outta nowhere, after months of thinking, knowing I was gonna DIE if I kept going, I still dont know. But I drove by a gym, Jan 4th 2003, was in there, signed up and huffing and puffing that same night...I havent looked back since.

    Thats 217 pounds ago.

That said, I now have clients and friends/family (like my mother) who claim they want it, say they wanna change their bodies, but go at it half assed... Then they find excuses, complain that theyre "big boned" or blame shit on their metabolism, as they wash down chocolate and potato chips with pop and beer.

I use to train my mother for free...she shed 35 pounds and 16 inches in 5 months with me, after years of trying on her own. But then the excuses came...and so did my bill. I still give advice when she asks, but the repulsion, disgust I feel towards my own mother as a result of her laziness and mostly, as she keeps lying to me, AND to herself about her efforts...Just not worth it. Her perogative. I dont care anymore.

    Im healthy
    I look great
    I feel great
    Ill live long

    Thats what matters.

Kinda hard to convince her otherwise when a doctor said she has asthma. She then said "you know they say your body changes every 7 years."

Ok whatever, then make your body smaller.

Seriously, asthma? Jesus, that the fuck, wha? Can a person develop asthma from maybe 6 days of working out, most of them consequtive? I really dont know.

Even today, "ever since I stopped going to the gym, Ive been feeling better. I didnt even have to use my inhaler today." Christ o'mighty. She got her own inhaler YESTERDAY. She hasnt worked out in about 4 days...

Hold on, I am not done. I am going out with some friends tonight, Repro is supposed to be there and I gotta tell ya, I feel like I am going to lose my patients and be an asshole. Its that frustrating to me.

I mean, shes going to use the excuse of not being able to breathe and 'say' shell keep going, but at her own pace.

^^^^^^^ btw, asthma symptoms DO diminish once an obese person sheds some body weight. having to haul around 150 pounds instead of 250 lightens the load on the heart and lungs of course...

pm me if she needs an idea of what a 360 asthma and cancer plagued female can accomplish!

Oh yea that is definitely true. I used to have asthma all of the time when I was 250lbs, now I only really have it 2 weeks a year mostly due to allergies probably (1 week spring, 1 week fall)

Shes not all that big...shes big though. Id say shes 5'5 200-220. Beautiful face, huge tits and she can get almost any guy...even now. But yeah, if you were to describe her, the first thing youd say is fat. Not chubby, not chunky...fat.

TY Repro. (wow, I need to update pics from my gallery...Theyre all 1+ yr old )

Akira, getting men, isnt so hard, regardless of size...lol Im sure she's beautiful, curvy, outgoing. Confidence works wonders.

But she appears to be self conscious and she should be. Long term repercussions of a 50+ pound fat excess are a lot more serious than most seem to realize.
Life is what you make of it, not what it makes you...TAKE CHARGE!

I honestly wonder if neither Friend A nor B got any ass, if that would be the last straw. Because since do, their "need" to look better isnt as needed. Though this is only my opinion, I know if I was in that situation, id get in the gym. wait....I was like that!

danny, yeah, Friend B has NO reason not to go to the gym. Free membership and 5 min away. Theres really no excuse.

Friend A has a free trainer. He might be a lil rough, but its possible hes one of those trainers that breaks you down, then rebuilds you. I respect that, but I am a trainer vs.a beginner.

Well, I didnt bring it up too much tonight. I overhead her talking to another HOT girl about going to a gym that is opening up.

I chimed in and said, why dont you go to martin memorial? (1 minute away from her, she could walk there)

She said: I dont like it.

Me? "Youre not gonna go anyway."

Her: "Yes I am, why do you say that?"

Me: "You have 18 fucking FREE days at the other gym. Why havent you been using them?!"

Then she goes back to blaming her lack of going on the terrible trainer! OOOOOOoooooooooo

Jesus. There was another comment too..

"Hey, I managed to catch up on the Sopranos these passed few days."

Me: Oh isnt that nice. Cool...and to think you coulda been at the gym throughout those hours as well. Good time management.

    Fuck it. I give up!
