Well for one children can't look after themselves and are dependent on you for their emotional and social development.

Hopefully your spouse is mature enough not to need you on the same level. She was a mature, independent adult when I met her. She will remain that way after I am gone. She doesn't need me. She is capable of looking after herself.

whatever dude, it really doesnt effect me so it doesnt matter. i just think its asinine that someone could possibly treat marriage as a buisness arangement.

Actually, I believe the business side of marriage is what keeps most marriages together (well of the 50% that stay together). Without that, the divorce rate would be much higher... kind of like it is in Hollywood and other areas where they can actually afford to get a divorce. It isn't because they have less morals than everyone else or don't try as hard.... it's just that they can afford to get out when they aren't happy.

I probably would have had similar views on marriage when I was young and had never actually been married... so I can understand the idealistic views that society feeds us

I wish I could be satisfied with just one girl for the rest of my life. It would have been a lot cheaper. But I'm not, I need the variety and I can recognize that about myself so I will not marry again.

i love how liberals always throw aout the mindless, zombie arguement. like your such a free thinker. remember society agrees with you on this, not me. im the one who is in the minority on this issue. i have been the only disenting opinion on this entire thread. everyone else was giving pats on the back.

what a ridiculous way to live your life telling yourself there should be no consequences for our actions. eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die. what a load of BS. i've made my decisions and im living them. its a open eyed decision on my part to treat marriage as more than a buisness arangement.

I don't remember anyone saying there were no consequences for your actions or eat, drink and be merry... I've made my decisions to. We all have and we all deal with the consequences.

So how long have you been married?

I didn't think so... I don't want to sound like I am slamming you. Before I was married I was quite idealistic about things like that too. I probably would have wrote the same things you did. Things change. I had no idea what marriage would really be like until I did it and either do you. I know, I thought I knew and thought I would keep things special and keep love alive and all that. It is easy to talk and think that way if you have never been through it. The reality of it can be a lot different though.

If you've been through it, you know it is largely a business deal... no matter how good the marriage is.

I knew several guy's in the Navy who just married for convenience, a married guy gets their housing paid for whereas unwed e4 and below have to live aboard a cramped ship. Most would marry some stripper or fat leech and then they'd do their own separate things while sleeping in other bedrooms, one of my female navy friends had married a fellow sailor just so they could have a house, they would both have other people over all the time, I used to hang at their house all the time, it was more of just a roommate situation than anything...

Thank you for clarifying it yet again. There is no denying that marriage sounds like a finacial arrangement. The only time Ive ever known marraige for its purity or felt it being known is from the church. Oh that and love. But love is rare on its own, so why ruin a perfectly good relationship with marriage?

But what do I know. I might have been coming off as a "liberal" cuz I used the word zombie. HAH. Whatever the FUCK that means.
