It wasn't really a choice. My friend bought a new house and I went to see it and Kevin happened to be there. The rest of the group was notebly annoyed by his doucheness as well. Eventually Kevin left after a night of drinking water (and no sleep, to make a point) and played golf with his step dad. All was well.

I have a cousin in the secret service n even his family only has a vague idea what he actually does.

To top it off during a RimPac exercise they almost rammed one of our tankers...and another ship broke down in the middle of the harbor...hel the Japanese Navy did a better job during that years exercises...


Don't Stop as far as your friend goes he sounds like he is full of shit...one year and as a private he wouldn't know shit because all he would be doing is cleaning shit and doing slave work with his unit. As far as killing he wouldn't know any better how to kill someone than a trained martial artist, and is probably so out of practice that he'd be lost without his gun....and being in the military doesn't make you above the law, in fact the military will punish you for smaller shit that you might just get a ticket for in the civilian world. I had a friend who received a reduction in rank and 45 days of restriction for having a beer in his fridge and being under age. Another friend got restriction and pay withheld for saying "What's up Nigga!" to another friend in Thailand....

A beer machine on a naval ship? Of course, that explains why that ship almost rammed your tanker.

I have a friend who went into the military to become a marine. The first thing that they taught them was that civilians werent shit and they were the best there is in the world. Civilians wouldnt be living if it wasnt for marines.

So as you can see alot of military men get it honest.

Minister mulls raising drinking age

Citing alcohol's escalating record of social harm, a provincial cabinet minister wants Alberta's drinking age raised to 19.

But Alberta's hotel and bar industry says it would be hard hit by such a move.

Sustainable Resources Minister Ted Morton said he wants to see a bill on the issue during the fall legislature session.

As it's outside his portfolio, he would have to either get the government to introduce it or have a private member introduce it.

Morton said he has already successfully put the question to more than a dozen Tory caucus colleagues. A similar move by the Tories died on second reading in 1999.



"As long as we are talking about public health and costs to the system, this seems worth talking about," said Morton.

"And as it turns out there's a fair bit of support for the idea out there. I don't think it's by accident that both B.C. and Saskatchewan have raised theirs to 19 and it's either 19 or 21 all over the States."

Police continually indicate that crime and violence is linked to alcohol the majority of the time, said Morton. "So it's an expense issue, it's a public safety issue, but it's also a public health issue."

Morton's suggestion came as the province unveiled its "Cage the Rage" advertising program to try to reduce youth bar violence.

"There are broader implications as well," said Morton. "Talk to anyone in the justice system or at Children's Services about the impact that fetal alcohol syndrome has and it's costing us tens of millions of dollars.

"The very day that we voted on the public smoking ban, we awarded $15 million to fetal alcohol syndrome issues. I'm not a big fan of government intervention but even using the libertarian standard of 'harm to others,' well, in this day and age it's impossible to argue that alcohol doesn't cause harm."

The suggestion does not sit well, however, with the hotel and bar industry. Raising the age may seem an easy answer but there's no evidence on the table yet to suggest it would curb violence or other social problems, said Dave Kaiser, with the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association.

"Our members would not be in support of it and first off would want an answer to the question: what is the problem we're trying to solve?

"If it's violence, then from what I know from some of the work being done on this issue, there needs to be a lot more research into the causes (and) there needs to be some evidence beyond the mere suggestion that raising the drinking age would help," he said.

Kaiser suggested there are already so many kids younger than 18 drinking that raising the limit would have no effect.

And, he added, "The related impact for our industry would be on the labour shortage side, because you obviously can't have people under age 19 in that situation serving in a licensed establishment."

And that's not only in bars, but also restaurants, he said. "That's pretty significant."

The Liberals and the New Democrats are against the idea, unless the government can provide hard evidence that it will conclusively work. Even then, said the New Democrats' Ray Martin, there's the issue of youth rights.

"We've decided that 18 is the age of majority for everything else, so we can't say 'except for when you want a drink', " he said.

Echoed Liberal Mo Elsalhy: "I simply don't think it's fair that 18-year-olds are allowed to work, to vote, to run for office and to fight in wars to defend us, but when it comes to drinking, we single them out as the troublemakers. There are plenty of 50-year-old drinkers out there goofing around and making trouble."

Ontario legal drinking age is 19. I don't see the big deal. However if you are of the age to vote, and to fight for your country and be considered an adult, you should be able to drink.
