Every time we've bought one of those automatic litterboxes the weak mottors they but in them burn out on the first clump heavier than an ounce after the cat has the runs, or the rake that is supposed to scrap it out gets stuck in the muck of liquified shit and you have to clean it out, carefully so the electronics don't get wet. Whereas with the old fashioned style you can take it outside and hose it of with the garden hose.

Plus you have 5 cats, there's a good chance that thing will end up terrifying one of them when the machine trys to eat it. Hey it happened with my cat, one day the automatic rake decided to go off while shes was doing her thing and grabbed her tail after she just about ripped down the curtain next to it she would use it ever again, she'd end up pissing on the rug in front of the sink and shitting next to the box....

Just my own horror storeis of the automated pooper scoopers, maybe this will work more efficiently, but until I see more proof I'll stick with the old way....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Actually, I had the original automatic litter box and that thing was awesome! It lasted about three years and died only cause my cat came down with diabetes (I didn't recognize it) and with all the water he was drinking his urine would puddle up and stop the rake from moving. I bought the exact same model and it lasted two more years until my little buddy passed. I still have it in storage.

I wouldn't knock it until I searched some Customer Reviews on it, I'm sure Consumer Reports or many of the other sites that may sell it would have some feedback from people who have bought one...

the reviews say it's engineered very well with a strong motor etc. a lot of people don't like that you need to buy the company's solution cartridges. it won't function without them and they are only good for 60 uses. about it still though.

It sounds like you need to get your cats to vote on it.

Sounds like you need a man, who will occupy your time with so much sex, you will have to get rid of all those cats.
