    Computer issue

Im having troubles with my slave drive all of a sudden....

just started after a restart last week...

upon start up it seems that it is still being read, but then while booting it goes into that disk check and it checks that drive and every sector comes up unreadable...

    Is it shot?

my computer always has start up issues, it was self built and for the most part I know what Im doing, but I guess I fucked up somewhere because I have problems booting all of the time...so I just keep trying until it wants to play nice and work...

but this problem I just cant explain....

Sounds like it's gone tits up...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Try changing the IDE cable. When i had that big Harddrive problem a month or so ago, that was the problem. Take a look if thats the issue before you start messing with the drive itself

If you're getting bad sectors, that basically means your done. There is a long shot you can try, but it will take up an active computer for several days, possibly even longer than a week.

There is a tool on the Hiren BootCD 9.1 called "HDD Regenerator". Sometimes it can fix/recover some bad sectors, but often times it can't. The tool takes a damn long time to run though, and on an HD with a lot of bad sectors it would probably take a week or more of straight running it.

Not much else you can do yourself about bad sectors, to me that's worse than physical damage to the drive.

If the computer didn't send the right signal to the drive when shutting off then the drive probably didn't have time to spin around to it's parking space and instead dropped the r/w head on valuable sectors of the platters.
