    are you committed to self-improvement?

    Hey,

I figured this would be the right place to ask since most of you here are committed to improving your bodies/fitness. How about your mental fitness? Excellence and achievement in work and life? What do you read, how do you feed and excersize your mind? Anybody here a top producer in sales or a successful business owner/entrepreneur?

I am committed to looking and feeling my best. My training is one of the most important parts of my life. When lifting is good, life is good. The inverse is also true that when life is good, training is good. I am pushing with everything I have to lift more and become leaner than the day before.

I am also committed to being professional at what I do, and I think I have achieved that skill. I have two jobs, and my bosses of both jobs love my work.

I am committed to expanding my mind and growing as an individual. This is a tough one and one that needs the most attention. I have ordered tons of books, and I listen to audio books at work about how to master your thoughts and understand why we do the things we do, and how to read people. I haven't had much time to devote to it, so I am slacking. It is really cool that I work with two of the coolest and most intelligent people I have ever met. They are practicing Buddhist, and their outlook on a lot of things is pretty cool, and I have started t adopt some of their ideology. I plan to devote massive amounts of time to this endeavor when I finally graduate in a few months.

Awesome! Me too! I ride the train to and from work 2 hours every day, and I have my iPod loaded with dozens of hours of audio books, speeches, and seminars. A lot of Brian Tracy, Zig Zagler, Tom Hopkins, Anthony Robbins, etc...

Topics of interest: self-discipline, goal achievement, building rapport, reading people, finding other people's hot buttons, negotiating without giving in, getting the most of my subconscious, getting people to cooperate with me, time management, concentration, ...wonderful stuff..it's really starting to have a tremendous impact on my life and work...i'm hooked!

I do prospecting on the phone (cold calling) for a software company, and my superiors are overjoyed with my recent performance. What good books have you read lately?

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I started some books on NPL and stalled out because I am working 7 days a week right now, so I am approaching burnout real soon, and haven't had time to finish the books. I listened to a really good audio book at work this week called Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goldman. It was posted here on IM a long time ago by VietJon. I'll try to dig up the link, and maybe you can still download them.

All of the self improvement stuff I've seen is shit, but I'm definitely interested in reading that stuff. All of what I've read is not applicable in practical life. Do you guys find that those books actually help in everyday life? Would you recommend Emotional Intelligence based on those grounds?

practicing self-discipline, becoming good at what you do, learning to be an expert negotiator (for business and personal purposes) and learning how to effectively manage your time, is shit? umm okay...

if you work for yourself it's essential. if you have somebody doing it for you (ala your manager/supervisor) then it's a different story.

personally, i'd rather lead then follow

It's not shit if it actually helps. The courses I've seen were from the type of "Look at your inner self. Are you happy with what you see? Do you control your life? WE are going to help YOU to get CONTROL in YOUR life!"

It's like those bad stereotype shrinks on TV.

^^LimeWire this: "brian tracy" "tom hopkins"

To me Brian Tracy makes a lot of sense. His whole principles revolve around this; you become what you think about. As in; if you are 100% preoccupied with a particular thought at all times, such as earning $100,000 per year in commissions, you will arrive at that goal. You will work your ass off, learn and master new skills and seek out new opportunities and idea to get to your goal. Listening to his recordings every single day before work, helps me focus and points out areas where I can improve.

Well, I think all of these authors pretty much talk about the same thing. The principles are the same, the authors are different. 100% self-accountability, controlling your mental state, communicating effectively, working hard, focus, commitment, etc...
