What are the laws on cops searching people?

these 3 cops in an undercover car just searched this kid and his book bag, for no reason, maybe because the kid is Spanish? lol... they looked down his undies, and took out his shit from his bag, and didn't even put it back in or anything, than when they didn't find anything, they just walked away They didn't cuff him or anything.

Also one of the cops was wearing a bullet proof vest over his shirt.. Is that a smart thing to do if they want to be undercover?

I don't think they're allowed to do that, especially not if they're looking at a minor's dick in the process.

I don't know if it's any different in the States though.

Cops are not allowed to search you without your permission without a warrant, unless they have probable cause. Undercover cops can be dicks sometimes. I have had my rights violated on numerous occasions because of the people I hung out with. Once or twice I went off on drug taskforce officers for trying to search me when they had no probable cause. After I demanded their badge number and the name of their superior officer they backed off. One cop planted drugs on my friend, then tried to get him to narc on our friends who were slinging dope.

With that being said, I am not dumping on police officers. Police are just like everybody else: mostly good people with a few bad apples that makes them all look bad from time to time. Take what you saw as a life lesson, and don't worry about it.

Not true, all they need is reasonable suspicion, which is a lot less than probable cause.

An example of reasonable suspicion is a guy walking back and forth in front of a store numerous times. All the cop has to do is point to the articulable fact that he thought the guy was casing the place to rob it, and he can perform a "terry stop," which is a frisk to make sure he has no weapons on him to ensure the safety of the police officer. If they have reasonable suspicion they can also stop you until they verify your ID.

Another example of reasonable suspicion is unprovoked flight in a high crime area (aka the person sees a cop and takes off running.)

You guys should definitely read up on some Supreme Court cases and know your rights. If a cop wants to ask for your ID and he does not have reasonable suspicion, you can basically tell him to fuck off.

But reading these cases will make you realize how much the Supreme Court favors the police and how much leeway they have. They have to point to that articulable fact, but that fact doesn't have to be true or correct. A cop can pull you over and claim to smell marijuana coming from your car, and can then search your car without a warrant, and if he finds anything illegal you are fucked. Did he actually smell marijuana? Who knows, and that can't be proven.

(That being said, if I don't get into law school, I will become a police officer )

OMFG! What a piece of crap. What is he talking about when he says the boy isn't asqueaky clean football star? He is a teenager. Of coarse he wasn't. None of us were. I wish Nahmias' office would bring up charges against him.

Yeah, sometimes. An asshole Bolixi cop ripped the backseat out of my car. He broke the seat latch ripping it out, just to find nothing. I was so pissed, I wanted to file a claim against the city, but my lawyer told me it would be pointless.

Heh, if a cop searches, arrests or holds you for no good reason, he's fucked in Holland, even if you're guilty.

If he'd trash your car in the process, he'd probably have to pay for the damage and maybe even lose his job.
