    Lightbulb Bench 405 or have a 6 pack?

    After reading Stewarts thread, a ponderment came up...

    Now, in Stewart's defense, he made a pretty good observation. He wants to bench 405 and declares that it is more rare than heavy squats and deads. Id agree. Anyone that does all 3 of these lifts usually has a high numbered squat/deadlift. Their numbers wont be too far off of each other either..

    Stewart's assumption is that even though squat/deads are usually high numbers to an average gym rat (those who do them), their bench numbers are kinda average or just above average. 405 signifies an advanced bench number, IMO.

    Now take the same case study examples (gym rats)....

    Everyone would like to have high strength while still ahving a 6-pack, but as we all know, diet or not, its a bitch to achieve. You gotta work real hard to get those abs to show...which means dieting...which also means a possible DROP in strength everywhere.

    So, everyone wants both, but whats more desireable? Bare in mind these are gym rats, not just anyone. A person who doesnt work out and weighs 150lbs might have a six pack naturally...were talking about WORKING to get one of these.

    Bench 405, but still not a fat ass benching 405. I would like to do so while weighing 225 or so.

    Uh uh uh...no gray areas. Not saying you will be fat to get 405, but not saying youll be lean enough to have a 6-pack

    I know I dont wanna be 300lbs and bench 405.....grey area or not I dont wanna be a lardass. If I was where I am now and benching 405 damn right I would take it!

    See, thats just it. Ive had some heavy lifts...but coming from being an ectomorph, even I have never had a six pack.

    I think a 6 pack calls upon a lot more work. 405 is impressive though and sure feels good to know u can lift 8 fucking plates...and it requires work too.

    I've had a natural 8pak from 15-40yrs old. I've also had a chest(natural and at times enhanced) that overhangs the 8pak. Granted I live in the Northwest and for the most part the shirt is on. Over the years I've had FAR more comments about the chest from ladies.

    Now I finally have a gut to some degree. My theory is that so long as the chest hangs out over the gut you are GOLDEN (so long as the shirt is on).

    It's just the nature of the timeless "all go or all show" question.

    You'd be hard pressed to find people who would admit/choose 100% one way or the other.

    Even the most functional-minded people will give a shit about aesthetics, and vice versa.

    Not necessarily. Having a 405 max bench could be labeled as an "all show" option as well.

    Not sure the abs could go both ways though...

    Im closer to a six pack now than benching 405, so Id go with bench that with my current weight. But all in all I'm having a six pack instead of 405.

    I'd go with the 6-pack, don't think I'd see either one ever, 6-pack would be more attainable for me, plus you can show that off outside the gym, HA!
