That would put me a few IQ points above Einstein then. I told my friend's father when I was 3 years old to "go fuck yourself" when he told me Ryan couldn't play. We all got a few laughs out of that one at his wedding.

going on 40 yrs later me n my brothers still laugh about my mom once saying "you kids watch your fucking language" i think we'd exasperated her pretty bad at that point.

But seriously, my parents let me watch Richard Pryor and George Carlin when I was 5. I use to stay in trouble at school for my bad language.

Maybe because they realize a few fucking words really had no meaningful impact on life.

Same. But by the time I was a teenager I knew when and when not to use my foul mouth. By then it was just my attitude that kept me in trouble.

my kids even from a very young age had an innate sense of where to swear n where not to. until tess was in hs i never heard of her swearing at school once.

maybe too many parents bought into the whole thing of the shrinks saying ozzey's family was healthy even with the colorful language because they communicate what they think, and more importantly what they feel. but it makes sense to me.

we, my brothers and i, were taught that a lot of things were inappropriate to say, or to even talk about. i'd rather deal with the fall out of the scorn i get from people hearing my kids swear than deal with what my mom had to. my brother was molested when he was 10, he suffered in silence for years and had no idea how to end it or get help because some things just weren't to be mentioned. i'm sure i've done a lot of parenting against the grain of the norm but i grew up with my brother and several little girls that were getting molested and not one of them told because talking about privates or saying "bad" things was unacceptable.

Same here. I have always did what I wanted to do despite the consequences. I learned from every mistake, and I like to believe that I am wise for my age just from fucking up so much.

I also know when to and when not to drop verbal bombs, but every now and then one slips. About a year ago I was giving a presentation to my classmates and professor. It was a demo of a piece of software I designed. When I wrote the code, I was running out of ideas for error messages, so I just made it say "fuck" when it threw an exception. I meant to go back and give it a real error message but I forgot. I was giving a walk though of the software when an error occurred and "Fuck!" popped up on the screen and my software froze up, I couldn't get it do do anything so as a last resort I jerked the overhead projector plug out of my laptop to make the screen go away.

My classmates were cracking up, but my professor wasn't amused. She gave me a D on the presentation.

my basketball coach told me i was mouthing curse words when i missed baskets. i had no clue.

This just sounds like a pathetic justification of a certain closed thread to me TBH.

i was posting the article when the thread got closed. i think it's interesting even aside from everything else. parents generally don't do parenting with their eyes or minds closed, hopefully. you might not like how a person parents but there usually more behind it than meets the eye. or in this case ears.

It sucks that you got a D on the presentation, but that's pretty funny.

I'm the same as you in regards to my shitty attitude changing me for the better as an adult. When my father passed in '95 I went on a rampage. I was 15 years old and I was completely out of control. My poor mother just couldn't control me. Then when she passed in '98 I was still in the height of my fuck-up years. Seeing how life can throw shit at you like that I decided from that day on that I needed to seriously revamp the way I went about things because one, mommy wasn't there to bail me out of trouble anymore and two, you never know if one of those horrible things that comes out of your mouth will be the last thing that you ever get to say to someone.
