I got a new laptop, first thing I did was remove Vista and reinstall XP![]()

Who is using it?
I bought a new laptop that runs Vista, and I finally upgraded my desktop and it's running Vista. I thought about loading XP on it, but figured I might as well get used to Vista.
I only had one issue, the crappy accounting program I use will not run in Vista, not even with the compatibility mode set, so I had to install the MS Virtual PC and install a copy of XP just to run this accounting program.

I thought about installing XP on both, but I am starting to like Vista, it's a resource hog, for businesses I don't recommend it unless all PC's will be upgraded and they ensure that all hardware/software they use is compatible.

Vista blows goats for quarters. I can't stand what they did to windows explorer. I rarely ever use icons, and would rather use the command line or just hunt the files down in windows explorer. But they changed the way it works and looks. The interface sucks balls now. Also, none of our emails from our xp hardrive can be imported into windows mail, which is basically just a shittier version of outlook, if you could even imagine them fucking up outlook worse than it already was. I can't import our business contacts or old emails. The OS is unstable and locks up when doing the just about anything.
I have constant print problems with vista where I will try to print a webpage, but it cuts off random paragraphs in both IE and FF.
I hate microsoft. I wish they would have just added some new capabilities into XP and sold it as an upgrade rather than making everything look new by moving shit around to where you can't find it. It took me almost 20 minutes to fucking print a document in office 2007. Oh yeah, office 2007 licks nuts, too.
The only reason I am using it is because I have to troubleshoot it for my jobs, so I better jump in head first to get a feel for it.
“I used to do drugs. I still do drugs. But I used to, too.”
I won't use it yet. Maybe in another year or so. I never use new OS's as soon as they come out. Too many bugs.

I am running Office 2007. I hated it at first because I couldn't find a damn thing. I'm getting use to it now though but I still can't find many things unless I add them to the shortcut bar.

At first I partitioned my drive and ran both xp and vista so that I could get used to it. Kinda kick the tires a little. That lasted about a week. I reformatted and installed xp. Programs hanging up randomly, continually killing my wireless nic, and as you said being a resource hog motivated the divorce.

No it definately won't be like that at all. I think my problem, as an IT person, is I see useless energy being wasted into the OS. Man, I remember running entire companies on less power than the average PC needs nowadays to keep up with the OS's. The OS's are too cumbersome for the average user to even get a grasp on and understand it's capabilities. Then you have the fact that they push they try to push the new OS out the door so they end up with a lot of buggy things.
Hell we haven't even finished upgrading to W2K3 yet.
Anyway, it definately won't be another ME situation. It is the next OS for all platforms so we have to adapt.

It's more like the Windows Really Good Edition.

by the end of the year there will be 1 billion PC's running Windows, and the amount of Vista licenses sold this year alone exceed the total amount of Mac installs worldwide.

Yeah Vista is the future. Just like XP was the future during the W2000/W98 era, but it's not the here and now. At the moment vista does blow donkeys for quarters and is completely unnecessary. XP is much more stable than it was back when Vista was announced as the next big OS from MS. A year or two from now it will be even better. I'll change over when MS and everyone involved gets all the bugs worked out ... if they ever can. There's a lot of software out there that will never run on vista.

I really don't mind Vista.. I actually really like it. It's the best OS Microsoft has put out yet. Of course it buggy here & there, but I'm looking forward to developing for it. WPF is some of the coolest shit from MS I've seen in a while.
What about windows 7

I won't upgrade unless they offer actual usability - I don't give a shit about eye candy. Hell on all of my XP installs I turn it back to Windows Classic Mode, turn off all of the unneccessary services, and turn all those stupid graphic effects off.
Speed, response, and stability > eye candy
Hell the only reason I'm not using Linux fully is because game support for linux is still meh. Yes I know about wine and cedega, but I prefer to run them native.

True, but there is no denying it has tons of unneeded garbage that eats through memory and kills performance, and it doesn't do a single thing better than XP.

I hated Vista at first, but am loving it now. The search features are incredibly fast and a lot of the initial bugs have been fixed. I still have problems occassionally (random crashes) but nothing big since my computer can handle it. The incompatibility issues for programs is the only thing that still pisses me off about it. But overall, Vista is very cool and Windows has been long overdue for a big update. Still trying to get used to the new Office though.
