Thumbs down Recent bad service stories…

Sometimes I like to order in and watch a movie with a girl, the fam, whatever. Tonight, me and my bro decided to get Chilis to Go. I make the order and am told it will be ready in 20 minutes. Last time I ordered from them, I showed up twenty minutes late, and still had to wait ten minutes at the bar for my food, they were so slow (it wasn't even a busy night). Because of this, I figured there was a relatively good chance they weren’t going to be on time tonight.

So I finish watching a program I DVR’d while I was at work, and show up ten/fifteen minutes late to get the food. I get there and go to the bar to pick up our order. The girl goes in the back and brings out this order and I look at it and tell her it’s the wrong order (it’s marked “Randy”). She then goes back to look for it, keeps me waiting a good five minutes or so, comes back out and says she asked all the employees and no one took an order for anyone by the name of Kent or anyone who ordered my food.

I tell her I definitely made the order to the right Chilis (only one in town) and then double check my outgoing calls to verify the number. She then goes back to "check for my order" again. She comes back in about three minutes and says they threw out my order because I took too long to come get it.

I look at my phone and tell her I am ten/fifteen minutes late at max. I am being very nice about it, because the thought of anybody throwing out an order that is ten/fifteen minutes late is ridiculous to me. The girl goes back into the backroom and soon the manager comes out and tells me the same thing; they threw out my order because they didn’t think I was going to come pick it up. I was kind of shocked. I tell him I'm only ten or fifteen minutes late and he insists it had been over forty-five minutes. I know this is BS and have the outgoing call made to place the order to prove it, but I don't say that because I don't like spit in my food. I tell him I even gave them my phone number, I wish they could have called me before they threw it out.

So the guy doesn’t really say much. I ask him how long it would take if I were to make the same order, and he says “ten minutes.” So I ask him if I can just come back in fifteen (I wanted to make a smartass comment about whether or not he’d throw out my order again for being five minutes late, but I held off) because I wanted to rent a movie then come back. So he says he has to check to make sure they have chicken. Sure.

He goes to the back room and I am still waiting at the bar. Five minutes later he comes out and says they have chicken and it will be ready in ten minutes. About ten seconds later, some kid pops out from the back room and is holding a To Go bag and says “here it is, I found it.. it was with the “To Go” orders.”

On the bag was my name written on the receipt along with my phone number, in big letters and numbers. It was irritating. The manager seemed to disappear as did everyone else, and the girl at the bar went back to her business. No apologies. After a minute or so, I tell the girl at the bar I still need to pay for the food.

I felt like just walking out with it since they said they threw out my order, and yet were still ignoring me (IT WAS NOT A BUSY NIGHT!)... but that conscience you know…

Ridiculous experience. I spent twenty minutes waiting. I understand these things happen and a lot of times they are isolated experiences, but I can't really explain why they would all deny taking my order and then insisting that I was over forty-five minutes late to get it when it wasn't anywhere near that.

Have you guys delt with any bad service recently? Name and shame them.

So the kid rescued your food from the garbage? That was noble of him...

or B: someone forgot to give your order to the cooks and they stalled you for the 20 minutes it took to make it...

I don't usually stick around when I get bad service, if they wanna play games they get no money from me...

You should have seen it coming the first time around. Once you realize they have bad service, why bother going back?

A few years ago, i went to Radio Shack to buy an optical mouse that i needed for my computer so i could do a certain project for class. It was tough to do with a ball mouse that i had so i go in there and it's sold out. I asked them when the next shipment was and they say Monday (i went in on a Friday). The following Monday, i go in and i'm looking for it. It is nowhere to be found on the shelf. I ask the clerk, "so where is the mouse?". The guy said the shipment is late and is expected to come in tomorrow. I was a little aggravated but told him to save one for me because i really needed one.

The next day, i go in early and there are still no mice on the shelves. This time a different guy was at the desk and i asked the same question. "Oh, it is already sold out". At that time, i was thinking how the hell does it sell out in a couple hours? Were there only like 3 mices to sell? Jesus Christ. I told the guy i wanted to pre-order one since the next shipment is the following Monday. He wrote my name down and confirmed my pre-order. "We will definitely have one for you on Monday, sir."

The following Monday, i walk in and go to the front desk. It was a lady this time and i explained the whole situation. She found my reciept and went into the back room. Ten minutes later, she comes out and asked me to verify if this was the kind of mouse i needed (she was pretty new and was confused). That's when i really started to get angry but still refrained from saying anything. She got the manager and went in the back room again. As i was impatiently waiting, they both come back with the WRONG MOUSE. I blew it and started cussing at them. They tried apologizing again and explained they made a mistake but i told them to save it.

"Fuck Radio Shack", as i was leaving and that was the last time i ever stepped into any Radio Shack store again. I had to drive forty-five minutes to another mall to find that mouse. So, i ended up working overtime on that project because i had already wasted two weeks by waiting for it.

That sucks Kent. I'm a big fan of Chili's Chicken Tenders, thank god the closest restaurant is 30 miles away or else I'd be in there every weekend.

Sorry Shiz, but that's just fuckin hilarious to me. I could just see you in "the Shack" fuming because your mouse wasn't in.

    Hey Kent-
    How 'bout this:
take your post. Email it to Chillis Corporate, with restaraunt address, date and time, and if you recall the manager's name and lt them know what happened.
Maybe nothing...but if corporate gets a complaint...or several...that their business name is tarnished...maybe something will happen.
Also...might get a coupon or something...

A few years back, I wrote a complaint to Carl's Jr. about their commercials. Do you remember those cheesy paper commercials? You could hear people masticating...it was revolting...so I wrote corporate saying that and that I'd not ever eat there, 'cause their commercials turned my stomach. I got a response back from the President of the company himself...and I don't recall those commercials being played again...

I'm right there with you. Every time one of those commercial came on, I became nauseated. I refused to eat at Carl's, too.

The fact that the President responded to your email is way above cool, though.

this is what my bro said too, but I figured the receipt with the phone number meant they just found it. Plus when I described my order, I didn't give it back to them in its entirety until the manager came out to take my order again, which was followed by the kid coming out with the bag two seconds later.

Well, it seems in the restaurant industry, service is never consistantly great and these things will happen every so often (I've never had this type of thing happen before at any other restaurant). I can tell you I won't order Chilis to Go from this location any more. I may go to sit down and eat there if it's the place chosen by friends, but I would likely be more inclined to sway them to go Applebees or Ruby Tuesdays first now, since the Chilis staff made a bad impression on me twice now. Sorry to hear about your Radioshack runaround; that is ridiculous. I haven't stepped foot in one of them in years. Nothing they have that Best Buy doesn't.

Yeah, they have great food. The food was good that night, but the service... . I still have the receipt sitting here with the "YOUR OPINION COUNTS" online Guest Experience Survey invitation on it; I think I'll take it in a few minutes. It was a shitty experience, but not bad enough where I'd want to get any of the staff in trouble, even though they couldn't get a simple 'to go' order together. I'm just pissed they gave me the runaround for such a simple thing. At one point I thought maybe they were just bored because it was a slow night and they wanted to mess around with a customer (my bro even suggested this), but I doubt that was the case since the manager came out and pretty much looked like a total d-bag after his BS "you kept us waiting over 45 minutes so we just threw your order out without calling you first" speel followed by the kid finding the bag right after guy takes my order again.

This is what I typed in for the comment boxes for the Customer Experience Survey, but have no idea if it actually went thru because I was never taken to any confirmation page:

For the second consecutive time in the past week or two, my Chilis To Go order was not ready when I arrived to pick it up. This time, the experience was especially horrendous. The full story can be found here:
    http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/op...tories%85.html

I was told my order would be ready at a given time. I then drove to pick up my order about ten to fifteen minutes later than the time given for the order to be ready (because previously, about a week prior, my order was not ready even when picking it fifteen minutes later than given time). I went inside to pick up the order from the car (because this is what I normally do). The bartender goes into the backroom to get my order, a few minutes later, she comes out with a bag marked "Randy," which I can immediately tell is not my order. She then goes back to the backroom to check again, and comes out saying no one has taken an order for anyone with my name (Kent), nor has anyone ordered the food I said I ordered. She goes into the back again and then comes out to tell me they threw out my order because I took too long to come pick it up. I arrived ten/fifteen minutes after I was told the food was going to be ready. I was shocked. I tell her I am only ten/fifteen minutes "late" and even provided a phone number when I ordered, and that I wish they would have given me a call before throwing out my order. The manager then comes out and tells me they can't do anything about it, because I kept them waiting "OVER FORTY-FIVE MINUTES." I assure him I am only ten/fifteen minutes late (I know this because I checked my cell phone's outgoing calls for the time the call to place the order was made). The manager doesn't say much and gives me no options to resolve the problem. I then ask him how long it will be if I decided to place the same order then. He tells me "ten minutes," which is much shorter than the original wait time I was told. I then say I will be back in fifteen minutes to pick up the order. He tells me to wait because he needs to check to make sure they "have chicken available," and that he wanted to make sure he took my order down correctly. This manager didn't seem to know what he was doing. He then went to the back room and came out saying the chicken is available and began to take my order down. At the same time, a kid came out with the To Go back with my receipt on the outside along side with my name and phone number written at the top in large letters and numbers. He told the bartender "you should have checked the To Go orders." I was shocked.

I was even more shocked because the manager just disappeared and left me with the bag. No one rung up my order. I was left standing at the bar waiting for the bartender to ring me up. I had to stop her and remind her I had not paid for my food yet. This is by far the most ridiculous restaurant experience I had ever come across. The most ridiculous part is that I never received ANY apology for the inconvenience, and was made to feel it was my fault. First, the staff denied even taking my order. To make sure I wasn't crazy, I checked my cell phone for the outgoing call and of course it was the correct location. Then, I was told my order was thrown out after only ten/fifteen minutes, but was told by the manager it had been OVER forty-five minutes. I understand mistakes happen, but for crying out loud, this many mistakes for one simple order?

    ok...here's one that just happened.
I didn't take enough food w/ me for the day...so after I got off work, I went to the McD's off base. I got a dollar cheese burger and large vanilla ice coffee.
Now..let me back up a little.
I walked upto the counter. There was a girl about 8 years old there, wearing that ever so attractive, McD's hat. I looked again to ensure she wasn't a 'little person'. Nope. Little girl. Ok..it was slow...I thought I'd be a good sport and play along....
I gave her my order. While she was giving me change...she reached down and gave herself a little scratch...as Jeff Foxworthy calls it: her hoo-hoo..
Let's face it...a little scratching down there can be a nice experience...but timing and location are paramount...
Onward...at least she didn't make my burger...
She DID however...attempt to my my coffee...while giving herself another couple scratches.
True, she scratched outside her shorts...but it's the thought....I had to REALLY bite my lip to not just bellow out:
Hey...'mom'...I can understand your precious little angel wants to follow in your footsteps and do your pathetically easy job....but...she's not old enough to be working...I've seen her do three separate instances of unsanitary acts while preparing my 'meal'...please get me a fresh cup and do it yourself...

...but I didn't...I did wipe it down w/ a napkin before I left though...

Hey kent sorry 'bout that order bro.. yeah it was me. Sometimes it takes me a while to squeeze out that special ingredient we use just for your orders. Hey somethings take longer when ya get my age.

Seriously Kent, I'd never eat there again if I were you. You will be getting the Road Trip treatment from them folks after raising such much hell there.

I love that Road Trip clip; probably the best part of the movie (or was it the tits?). I didn't really complain at all, I kind of just took it there. I was more stunned than mad at the time. I was mad only when I left Chilis. You're right in that I won't eat there again. Two slip ups in < two weeks is too much for me.
