IE uses a lot of components that are already running on your PC, FireFox does not.
Also, you probably have serveral extensions installed, correct? Those will take up more memory, and if they're written poorly, they may have memory leaks.

firefox, using waayyy too much ram
how much ram is your firefox using? Mines always uses at least 100MB of ram (It is also running alot slower than usual)... While IE7 only uses about 35MB... can someone help me figure this out?

Also "System Idle Process", when I look in the taskmanager is always using 99 CPU.. is that also normal?

You don't have to. If the entensions are useful, then keep them. After all, that's why you have the RAM.

Do you have adblock, noscript and flashblock? A lot of pages have banner ads that use java and flash when you have several tabs with those running it adds up. System Idle is just downtime on your computer, that means all 99% of the cpu is free to be used somewhere, you can click on some links in firefox with task manger up and see firefox jump up and down if you click the CPU column.... Those add-ons are fine, you don't want my add-ons, most of them are for work related stuff, like Loop to turn documents quickly into PDFs, another to fill out Customs forms for USPS, ScreenGrab so I can save a whole webpage as an image(for people who live in the sticks with no internet access), etc....

System idle process is the unused ram. Watch that number fluctuate according to what processes are running. So even though firefox looks like it eats up ram you still have 99% of your ram available. Click the Performance tab. There you see how well your system is using resources by how hard it taxes the processor.
I'm sure you know already about start>run>MSCONFIG>startup tab. You prolly already use that as well as the start>run>MSCONFIG>services tab>check hide all microsux services>kill what is not needed to control what starts and runs in your machine freeing up resources for only those programs you want to run.
