THE past is supposed to be just that, but in Northern Ireland it refuses to go away.

In a chilling reminder of the darkest days of terrorist "justice", a man has been tarred and feathered by hooded attackers.
In a scene reminiscent of the 1970s, when the Provisional IRA regularly meted out this savage treatment in areas where it held sway, the loyalist Ulster Defence Association is suspected of leaving the victim tied to a lamppost in a street in South Belfast.
The attack took place on Sunday in the strongly loyalist Taughmonagh estate, where the UDA has influence.
Pictures of the attack appear to have been recorded on a mobile telephone camera. They show passersby watching as the punishment is administered.
After tar was poured on the man's head, feathers were emptied over him and a placard was hung around his neck claiming the victim, said to be a local man in his 30s, was a drug dealer.
It read: "I'm a drug dealing scumbag."
The victim has not been identified, nor has he come forward to the authorities.
Police and politicians called the incident "barbaric".

The UDA denied involvement, but Alban Maginness, a nationalist Social Democratic and Labour Party Assembly member, said: "It is quite clear that it was an element of the UDA that was responsible for this.
"These things are not done spontaneously by the community."
Frankie Gallagher, of the Ulster Political Research Group, which represents the UDA politically, said: "The UDA told the local community to go to the police about this.
The community responded in the way it did because it had no confidence in the police."
He said frustration with the authorities' inaction over the alleged drug dealing had been building for weeks. Police had information but failed to intervene, he said.

Holy shit! I am surprised the dude lived. I don't have a problem with drug dealers. I see them as no worse than Rite-aid pharmacies, that is unless they sell to kids, then I think they are shit and should be killed.

Drug dealers don't discriminate, their in it for the money.

You are lumping them all together. I hate to inform you of this, but there are tons of dealers out there that are good people who just sell to party goers their age or older. I know Dealers who are more ethical than most business owners and politicians.

I may be, but I was able to get weed at the age of 12, at the age of 14 I was able to get coke and heroin from anybody.

They had to put No Drug Zones all over the schools here in NYC.

The dealers I talk about are scum.

You have to remember that Alabama is still running 40 years behind the times. There are scum dealers here, also, but most are ok. I get my weed from Indian International students usually, and they are pretty cool. They won't deal to anyone unless you are recommended by one of their trusted friends. One of my dealers is a College Professor of Mathmatics.

Drugs aren't always so evil! But, I am sure that drugs have reached critical mass in NY, and most peopel are just sick of what drugs have doen to their city.

We have drug wars, dealers taking over projects to sell drugs, drug gun fights....

You should come to NYC just for the experiance.

I plan to. Not for the drug wars, but just to see the one and only New York City. Once I graduate, I plan on seeing a lot of places. I might see some of you before its over, who knows.

I can't stand the "crack is no worse that prescription drugs" crap. I'm pretty sure that no Monoxadil user has ever sold their child for drug money.
