Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Millburn, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace.

[He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table]

    Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa!

[Alexa gives him a withering glare]

Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me.

    Alexa
    : In your dreams, douche-bag!

    Caped Boy
: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you.

    [Keith walks off]

    Alexa
    : Ewww!
I've never played. Not really even sure if I know what's involved.

Well, Im a fan of fantasy novels and such, and video games,

soooo its kind of a natural thing for me.

*mega nerd voice* im jusht really exshited becaushe I'm dming a campaign for a whole new group of people, (my friendsh where I just moved to) and I've been prepping our upcoming campaign for a couple weeksh now. I need to go through the modulesh I'm integrating (so I dont have to write entire dungeonsh myshelffff)

But I'm writing my own shtory, and they're figuring out what charactersh they want to be.

    Im shtoked. /nerdvoice

I also just wanted to see who all plays it, out of this bunch.

I expect Kelju has, and perhaps a couple more that will surprise me, like Premier or something.

Yeah, I use to play. I'm glad I stopped. D&D is pussy repellent. My old roommate was a D&D nerd, too. On my way out to the gym he would be bragging about leveling up some WoW character, so I would say cool, I'm going to level up my chest and triceps.

Crono does D&D LARP, I think he is the famous Lightning Bolt guy...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

it's been brought up before and there were a few surprises of who plays. I've always wanted to, I watched people play once, I've just never had enough friends to play with I have read some of the manuels though, I get excited when there's a new monster index to thumb through, I've played a few D&D video games, and read lots of Salvatore's novels. I have played some table top games, played Mage Knight for a while, watched some people play Warhammer a few times. I know putting all of this back to back makes me sound uber geeky, and I am, but I think I hide it pretty well

    Haha, yeah.

Thing is with LARPing, I dont really understand how you would determine whether stuff like death would work, or how much damage lightning bolt would do, etc.

and its really fruity. im sure it could be fun, but like I said, Id be worried people would see me.

I played it for years. Both as a player and a DM. I would make some of my own modules.

It's one of the best game ever created. The first edition was gold, the second edition was good, and the third edition sucked ass. In the last edition, they changed it from "role playing" to "roll playing". It was just a mess of min-maxing.

3.5 actually isnt that bad, after some editing

cant say Ive really explored ADND or first e. however Ive always fancied getting ahold some of the books and looking through them

Im definitely stoked on this new campaign.

Are you doing any groups right now?

And what is your favorite class? I like the monk, and a two weapon fighter

I haven't played in years. It was always hard to find enough good players for a group. Plus, I simply don't have the time anymore.

    ahhh,

    I gotcha.

dming takes a hella lot of free time, if you make EVERYTHING yourself.

im glad I got about 10 gigs of pdfs, about half of which are modules.

    etc.

im not one to let my people just dungeon crawl though, and im certainly not gonna railroad them. as much as I would like to. and as convenient for me it would be, Im gonna do this one right

I did the occasional dungeon crawl. But I'd do a lot of long-term stuff, too. Hell, I had a villain that the group ran into at first level, which tossed them around like they were nothing. They weren't at his level until level 15 and weren't finally able to beat him until almost level 20.

    Thats beautiful, haha.

Most of the guys I have in this group are gonna be most intrigued by an in depth story, not to say that they arent gonna be mega stoked on battles, but they need justification for everything, haha.

Do you have any really cool twists or novelties that you could tell me about, so I can seem a better dm than I am?

Btw, im actually trying to be not shitty, Im rereading the entirety of the phb (arggghhh) and I intend to twice more, and the DMG once before we really play our first session.

Keep a log of all the NPCs that the group meets. Hell, make up some NPCs that you can drop in as needed. Give them mannerisms, allies/enemies, and keep a note of their status. Then, in between sessions, make minor, or some major, changes. There's nothing more realistic than finding out a favored NPC died, got more powerful, or changed alignment while the players were away. It makes the world feel more alive and not revolving around the players. It makes the players feel they're apart of a much bigger world.

Actually I never really played D&D, but I played a lot of MUDs back in the day so I can understand the appeal... my older brother and his friends all played when I was real young though so I've seen it done, and played like once or twice....

    GL with ur game though.
