people who stay cool headed, aren't so pigheaded they have tunnel vision, know what they are talking about and stay on topic. it's not always win/lose. sometimes just getting a good message out there as food for thought can be a very good thing. pride is a weakness and winning is never as important as seeking the truth.

a lot of people on here are very well informed and make you consider things you hadn't before. anyone who is really listening stands to gain from members who can even come close to those standards.

Hey, I un-gheyed your hockey thread by posting a hot chick.

john h always kept his composure and sense of humor no matter what came at him. i often don't. i get frustrated and will throw in a fuck you. john drove me nuts at first but he'd stick to his beliefs without getting nasty. that is admirable even if you disagree with a persons argument and a lot of people here are capable of a cool head or at least not going too far off course.

i agree completely. I love to hear people say such wonderful comments about people, it shows a lot of introspection on your part and for me gives me some hope in humanity. humans are inherently designed to be so cruel to one another, and it's that stepping back from our impulses and snap judgements, and implementing an actual case by case analysis of what's behind the words of the individual and not our immediate reactions that makes some small amount of humanity tolerable (for me at least). And likewise, I respect (and expect) others not to have that same philosophy, but when what drives you is the need to accept that things are rarely, if ever, black and white and that different opinions can exist, even conflict, while both being in some philosophical sense "right," but what drives others is a need to prove that they are right and that others must follow this maxim it becomes very difficult to understand how to approach someone with different views.

... and for the sake of John H. I'll end my post the same as he did.

Facts:

• The Earth started to warm up 10,000 years ago.
• The Earth has had many warming and cooling trends.
• This is not the warmest the Earth has ever been.

All of these show that the Earth has warmed up, and cooled down, all on its own. But now, magically, the warming is only caused by mankind. I've also have yet to see any definitive proof that mankind has had any real affect on the mean global temperature. It usually comes down to some dumb ass nonsense such as "Well, the consensus is..." or "all of that CO2 must..." with no real proof. And few of the studies even try to take into account any natural warming, which just show denial of facts.
